The countdown to the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold final in Madrid has started. On Friday, 23 February, some of Earth’s best track and field athletes will show up at the CDM Gallur in the Spanish capital, and the throwers will not be left behind.

Two-time world indoor champion Tom Walsh of New Zealand leads a strong field for the men’s shot put. The 2017 world champion and double Olympic bronze medalist, who holds the Oceania record of 22.90m, will feature in a contest where four athletes have personal bests over the 22-meter-barrier.

Walsh will clash with three different continental champions: European indoor champion Zane Weir of Italy (22.44m); South American, Pan American, and Ibero-American champion Darlan Romani of Brazil (22.61m, area record); and African champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Nigeria (21.80m, national record).

The field also includes Jamaican record holder Rajindra Campbell, who knows how to win in Madrid – he did at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet in 2023, where he set his personal best of 22.22m.
