Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu has assured Southampton fans that the club will not be relegated to the championship at the end of the season.

Onuachu who joined Southampton from Genk FC of Belgium on the last day of the January transfer window for 21 million euros (18 million pounds) disclosed that the Saints can still salvage some pride from the wreckage of a disappointing season.

“We need to be focused and come up with a winning altitude. Three victories will surely take us out of the relegation zone. The only way Southampton can play in the Premier League next season is for the players to believe that they can salvage the situation” Onuachu told BT sports.

“I think we have quality players capable of taking us out of the drop zone.  We need to work harder and stop dropping points like we did today against Wolverhampton Womderers.”

Southampton lost 1-2 to 10 man Wolves on Saturday on their St Mary’s Stadium turf.

The defeat left Southampton four points from safety, while 15th placed Wolves moved 5 points clear from the relegation zone.

Southampton have been relegated once, at the end of the 2004/2005 season, but were promoted back to the Premier league in the 2011/2012 season.

Southampton will play Chelsea at Stanford Bridge, in west London, next Saturday.
