Ollie Watkins’ brace of goals and Jacob Ramsey’s lone strike were enough to hand Newcastle a 3-0 win over fellow European football contenders at Villa Park Saturday.
Villa remains on 6th spot on the table and in contention for a Europa League spot, still two points behind Newcastle whose 4th position puts them in the running for the more UEFA Champions League spot.
Ramsey opened scoring for the home side on 11 minutes following by Ramsey’s two second half goals on 64′ and 82′ in the tie.
McGinn to Moreno, Moreno then picks out Watkins who swivels past Dan Burn and fires home for 2-0. A lovely goal, that!
Newcastle were quiet for most of the second half but began the second stanza more briskly. That was until the 64th minute when McGinn found Moreno, Moreno in turn locates Watkins who evades Dan Burn before riffling home the second goal for a Villa 2-0 lead.
Then McGinn worked hard on the right before slipping in a pass to Buendia whose cut back misses Ramsey for Watkins to tuck away his second strike and Villa’s third on 84′.
If Villa’s second goal was splendid, their third was a delight to watch.
It is beginning to look like everything he touches now turns to gold at the moment! That is Ramsey’s of course, whose new found form under manager Unai Emery at Villa Park has been phenomenal.
McGinn with some great work down the right, he slips in Buendia who cuts the ball back. Ramsey misses it and there’s Watkins to tuck away his second and Villa’s third. Game. Over.
Time again, Villa moved the ball to both side of the pitch before locating a someone from the middle with the force to breach Newcastle’s rear. The visitors failed to find a solution to turnaround the tide.
