Forty-one Universities across the nation vie for honors in Benin city, Edo State

The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) trials for the World University Games started on Monday, May 8, 2023, with 315 athletes from 41 universities competing for their spot to represent Nigeria at the 31st Universiade in Chengdu, China, scheduled for July 28–August 8, 2023.
The version of the trials has Gombe State is featuring Five Athletes for the first time in its history, comprising of four male and one female from the Army University Bui, under the Sponsorship of the Gombe State AthIetics Association Chairman Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe.
The trials involves seven sports-athletics, badminton, judo, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, and tennis-holding at the University of Benin and Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.
The event has been an exciting showcase of Nigeria’s top university-level talents, as athletes compete for the chance to represent the nation at the prestigious international event for the academia.
The trials are also an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their skills and ability to compete at the highest level, inspiring others to take up sports and pursue their athletic dreams.
The NUGA World University Games Trials is an important milestone in the Nigerian sports calendar, and the organizers encourage everyone to come out and support the nation’s talented athletes.
