Ruthless Niger Tornadoes hit Gombe Utd for five
Niger Tornadoes consolidated on their away result in midweek with another thrilling victory over troubled Gombe United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna by winning 5-0, NPFL reports.
The Ikon Allah Boys began the onslaught as early as the sixth minute when Clinton Jephta picked the ball and drove through his markers before curling his effort into the net for the opening goal.
Four minutes later, Najeem Adeyinka Najeem’s free-kick picked out Chidiebere Ernest, who made no mistake from close range to direct the ball into the net as Tornadoes doubled their lead. Interestingly, it was Ernest’s second goal in back-to-back games.
The relentless machine of Tornadoes resumed in the second period and practically blew a sorry Gombe United apart.
Five minutes into the restart, Tornadoes scored three goals. Mohammed Hussaini curled home a brilliant direct free kick for the third.
Despite Gombe United’s best attempts to find their way back into the contest, the home team dominated the remaining period of the match.
Jephta practically caused Gombe United’s defense all sorts of trouble and got rewarded with a penalty converted by Bashir Usman in 76 minutes.
Four minutes later, Jephta popped up at the right place and time to score his brace and the fifth of the game, allowing the Tornadoes to record their biggest win of the season.
Tornadoes will now focus on their trip to the south coast in Uyo, where they will face bottom-four side Akwa United this weekend. Meanwhile, Gombe United will host Kwara United at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
