Gombe United finally halts Bendel Insurance 2022-2023 season winning streak
Group A games saw run-away leaders Bendel Insurance huff and puff to a scoreless draw against visiting Gombe United at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin city.
Bendel Insurance still leads the group with 16 points, four points ahead of second placed Remo Stars of Ogun State, who also lost 1-3 on the road to Akwa United at arguably, the most beautiful stadium in West Africa-The Nest of Champions.

Cyril Chinedu Olisema opened scoring for the home team in the fifth minute from a spot kick. Qudus Olamilekan Akanni replied for Remo Stars in the 24th minute, with Uche Collins restoring the lead for Akwa United in the 45th minute. In the second half, Oluwasegun Olalere’s 60′ own-goal sealed the win for the home team.
Samuel Ayannride’s fisrt half brace in the 40′ and 44′ gave Shooting Stars a 2-0 win against visitors Nasarawa United at their Lekan Salami Stadium abattoir. Shooting Stars now occupy the sixth spot on the Group A table, 2 points behind fifth placed Plateau United on 10 points.
At the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, home side and third on the Group A log, Enyimba, mauled their visitors, El Kanemi Warriors 2-0, with another first half brace of goals, this time scored by Chukwuemeka Obioma in the 27′ and 45th minutes of play.
Midtable Plateau United of Jos defeated Kwara United 1-0 at their New Jos Stadium home turf. The loss left Kwara United with 5 points and stranded in the 9th place in Group A, just 3 positions ahead bottom placed Nasarawa United with 1 point in 6 games. The lone goal of the game was an own-goal scored by Oriyomi Murtala Lawal in the 30′.
In Group B, Sunshine Stars of Akure held on to Stephen Chukwude’s 4th minute goal to hand their visitors Bayelsa United a lone goal defeat at the Akure Stadium. The win took Sunshine Stars to 9 points on 6th spot on the table while their loss pushed Bayelsa further down on the log to eighth position on 5 points in six games.
Doma United of Gombe continued their fairy-tale run with another outstanding performance int their 2-1 defeat of defending champions Rivers United at the Gombe Township Stadium in Pantami. The win took the home side to fourth position in Group B and on 9 points from 6 matches. Rivers United are now tied on 13 points with group leaders Lobi Stars who have a superior goal advantage over them.
Musa Mohammed scored a brace for Doma United in the 30′ and 68′. Ngweni Ndassi pulled a goal back for Rivers United in the 25′.
Lobi Stars secured a scoreless draw away to Niger Tornadoes at The Ahmadu Bello Stadium. Tornadoes remain in 6th position in Group B with on 8 points from 6 games.
Bottom placed side Wikki Tourists on 4 points in Group B, easily defeated struggling Rangers International by a lone goal scored by Abubakar Aliyu Ibrahim in the second minute of injury time in the first half. The loss at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi State left Rangers marooned in the seventh position in Group on 5 points from 6 matches.
Abia United walloped hosts Dakkada 4-2 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo in their Group B tie last Saturday. Emmanuel Ayoasi 65′ and Aniekan Ekpe Okon 84′ were the scorers for Dakkada, while Emmanuel Onu 27′, John Peter 48′, Ugonna Felix Aniekwe 79′ and Monday Yakubu 90′ scored for the visitors.
Abia United occupy the thrid position on the Group B log with 12 points from 6 matches and Dakkada is placed ninth on the table on 4 points from as many matches.
