Paris 2024: Round-up of the first leg encounters

The first leg matches of the third round of the CAF zone qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have concluded, with noticeable away wins for Morocco and South Africa on Friday, 23 February, CAFonline reports.

Africa is reserved two spots in the Olympics’ women’s football division, and all eight nations are eyeing an appearance.

Morocco managed a slender 2-1 victory over Tunisia courtesy of goals by Ghizlaine Chebbak and Fatima Tagnaout. At the same time, Alaa Kaabachi gave the Tunisians the consolation and lifeline ahead of the return leg.

In Abuja, Cameroon held Nigeria to a frustrating 0-0 draw in a highly tactical affair by the two sides.

In Tanzania, the reigning queens of Africa, Banyana Banyana, comfortably cruised past Tanzania with a clinical 3-0 victory courtesy of goals by Jermaine Seopesenwe, Thembi Kgatlana, and Hildah Magaia, who all ply their trade in Mexico.

In Ghana, The Copper Queens showed great character and strength following the sad passing of their teammate Norin Betani, as they edged Ghana 1- 0 in Accra.
