Injured Black Stars of Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wallacott has arrived in Qatar to support the team at the ongoing world cup in the oil-rich nation.

The England-born goalkeeper, who plays for Charlton Athletic FC Of England, missed out on coach Otto Addo’s 26-man list after he broke his finger three weeks before the world cup.

Wallacott said he has no regret that he would not play for Ghana in this world cup but would be very happy to be a fan.

“It is every player’s dream to play in the Mundial, but you can not determine what will happen to your fitness before a major competition. Injury is inevitable in football. We have to learn to live with situations like this,” he said.

“He added, ” I was disappointed initially. I had to decide whether to continue but later reversed my decision because I didn’t want to jeopardize Ghana’s chances of progressing. It is heartbreaking after you’ve worked hard and the coach says you’re not going to the world cup.

Wallacott is optimistic that the Black Stars will still qualify from their group after losing the opening game 2-3 to Portugal yesterday, adding that coach Otto Addo’s tutored side gave the Portuguese a good fight throughout the match.

Wallacott’s rival for the number one shirt Richard Ofori was also ruled out of the Mundial due to a knee injury.

Ghana will play against South Korea on Monday. The Black Stars need to win the game to avoid an early exit from the competition.
