Flying Eagles forward Ibrahim Mohammed has dedicated his U-20 World Cup goal against Argentina junior national at the ongoing FIFA U20 world cup to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nigeria defeated Argentina 2 -0 in one of the round of sixteen matches played on Wednesday to qualify for the quarter final of the competition.
In a post match interview, Mohammed explained that he was very happy to have scored his first goal against the host nation, adding that he knew before the match that the Flying Eagles would not lose the game because they were determined to give their best.
When asked if he was under pressure before the game, Mohammad said, “None of us was under pressure before and during the match. We were determined to win the match and that was why we played them with all our energy,” he continued.
“In modern football, there’s nothing like home team. Any team can be beaten at home. This was what motivated us and I am glad we took our chances. I am dedicating my goal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sworn in as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2023 in Abuja.
Nigeria will play the winner between Ecuador and South Korea in Thursday’s round of sixteen game on Sunday.
