The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has announced that it has dismissed Jean-Louis Gasset from his position as head coach – a decision taken with immediate effect.

Following the Elephants’ 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea in their final Group A match of the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, the executive committee of FIF decided to part ways with the French tactician.

Cote d’Ivoire finished third in Group A and is yet to confirm its eligibility to compete in the Round of 16 of the competition.

The Elephants’ fate hangs on the results of this Wednesday, 24 January where Group E and F will have their final rounds of fixtures. The Elephants will be hoping for a victory for Morocco against Zambia to keep a place in the four best third finishers.

Emerse Fae takes up the role of acting head coach in the interim.
