Blames Qatar 2022 world cup timing
for Senegal’s loss of star striker

Senegal national team coach Alliou Cisse is seriously angry with the timing of the 2022 world cup in Qatar following the injury sustained by Bayern Munich forward Sodio Mane in Germany yesterday.
Mane was substituted 20 minutes into Bayern Munich’s 6-1 victory over Warder Bremen following an injury to the upper part of his right fibula.
Speaking on Europe Sports world cup countdown, Cisse said losing a player like Mane at this time is a big blow to the Terenga Lions, adding that his absence will affect the team at the world cup.
“Senegal medical team will continue to work with Bayern medical doctors to assess the injury to enable both parties to know how to help the player to play in the world cup if possible,” he said.
A report from Germany says Mane will miss Saturday’s game against Schalke and may be ruled out of the world cup if the damage to his fibula is very severe after the assessment.
Alliou Cisse is likely to announce his final world cup squad this Friday.
Senegal will play in group A with the Netherlands, the host nation, Qatar, and Ecuador.
