Ross Barkley’s free agent status lasted less than one week after leaving Chelsea and the EPL by mutual consent only last week, Edwin Emeanua writes for Sports Joust.
He signed with Ligue 1 OGC Nice as a free agent this weekend.
Barkley now enters the growing list of ex-Premier League stars to switch allegiance to the French league.
He joins the Nice side with former EPL stars like Nicolas Pépé, Kasper Schmeichel, and Aaron Ramsey, at his new side this summer.
Former Chelsea goalkeeping hopeful, Marcin Bułka, is yet another recent familiar addition to OGC Nice.
The Nice-based side has a connection with England through its ownership by Ineos, which belongs to Englishman Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ratcliffe is one of Great Britain’s richest citizens. He was cited among possible buyers of Chelsea and was more recently named as a likely bidder for ownership of Manchester United.
Barkley, 28, left west London following a 4-and-a-half-year sojourn at Chelsea, where he logged only 100 shifts, hitting the net a total of 12 times with 11 assists.
Even as a fringe player with Chelsea despite spending an entire season on loan to Aston Villa, Barkley won the FA Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa League during his Stamford Bridge stint.
