Arrangements are in top gear for an invitational multi-sports fiesta between Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State chapter and the Ibadan Recreation Club (IRC).

The contest tagged Oyo SWAN/IRC Invitational Tourney is scheduled for Friday February 17th 2033 at the Ibadan Recreation Club premises in Adamasingba, Ibadan.

A press release jointly signed by the Secretaries of IRC and Oyo SWAN, Kayode Oluwadare and Adewale Tijani explained that the sporting event is geared at boosting and maintaining the existing cordial relationship between the two organizations.

The IRC President Dr  Adesoji Tayo, said that the Club will set up a committee that will work with Oyo SWAN to ensure that the one day event was well organized, adding that, he had tasked the committee to ensure that the mini competition was glamorous and fun-filled so that the organisers’ objectives would be realized.

The IRC President thereafter boasted that, his team will soundly defeat the Oyo SWAN team in all events.

In his response, the Chairman of Oyo SWAN Niyi Alebiosu expressed appreciation to IRC leadership for partnering with his Association to organize the competition.

While assuring that the Club will not regret engaging his Association in the sporting contest, Alebiosu however told the IRC President that the Oyo SWAN team won’t be a pushover.

“Mr President, even though most of your men seem fitter and better but do not be too sure of victory. And do not underrate my men. Oyo SWAN also have good players. IRC might have facilities but SWAN also have talents. And we will shock you”, Alebiosu said.

Meanwhile the leadership of the umbrella body of sports journalists in Oyo State has called up a formidable thirty man team to engage the IRC team in various indoor and outdoor games.

Sporting events in which the two sides will clash at the friendly contest are in the Five-A-Side football, Billiards & Snookers, Ayo Olopon, Ludo, Table Tennis, and Tennis events.

In each of the games, members of Oyo SWAN will square up against their IRC counterparts.

According to the organisers of the Oyo SWAN/IRC Invitational Tourney, winners and runners up in each of the games will go home with fabulous prizes.

Highlights of the event will also include a special dinner as well as the investiture of the IRC President, Dr Adesoji Tayo as the Patron of Oyo SWAN.
