Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has said that he has no regret leaving Union Berlin FC of Germany for Nottingham Forest FC of England.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest for a club record fee of 17.5 million pounds in the summer of 2022.

In 2021 /22, Awoniyi scored 20 goals and assisted five times across 43 appearances in all competitions as he helped guide Union Berlin to a fifth place finish, securing a spot in the Europa League.

Speaking to Fox Soccer Xtra, the Nigeria forward explained that he has always been dreaming of playing in the Premier League for many years adding that he couldn’t say no when Nottingham Forest approached him.

“Why should I regret that Union Berlin is doing well after I left the club? I think I made the right move because It’s a dream come true for me. With or without me, Union Berlin will continue to do well due to their fantastic organization” he said.

“Every league is tough. The best way to excel in any country is to prepare yourself ahead of the task. Scoring one of the goals that saved Nottingham Forest from relegation against Arsenal always makes me happy because it helped us to maintain our premier league status.”

When asked if he would like to become a pastor at the end of his career, Awoniyi said: ” To be honest with you, I don’t think I’m at that stage yet because my philosophy is that God is the greatest. I have to tell the whole world that he is the answer to everything. I have my flaws, I am a sinner as well but for me, God is the greatest.”

Awoniyi was Nottingham Forest top scorer last season after scoring 10 Premier league goals in 17 starts and will hope that he can improve on the tally with enough time this season.
