Chelsea give up on Ross Barkley

0

The 28-year-old left Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge as one of England’s most promising midfielders but his spell in London has not gone to plan, Kyle Newbould reports for Echo News.

Ross Barkley has become a free agent after terminating his Chelsea contract by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old had one year remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge but has been looking for a move away all summer after falling down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel. The former England international spent the 2020/2021 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, but managed just 179 minutes for Chelsea in the Premier League last season – the equivalent of fewer than two games.

With no place in Tuchel’s plans for the upcoming season, he and new owner Todd Boehly were keen to offload the attacking midfielder but have failed to find a suitor with the window closing on Thursday. And with a reported wage of around £ 200,000 per week, those in charge at Stamford Bridge have decided to pay up a year early.

‘Barkley’s final game was against Watford in May, and it was his late header that secured all three points in our last game of the season.

“We would like to thank Ross for his contribution to Chelsea and wish him well for the rest of his career.”

Scottish side Rangers are looking at bringing the former Toffees star across the border, and a return to Goodison Park had been tentatively linked earlier this summer – although such a move always seemed unlikely.

Barkley joined Everton aged 11 and made his first-team debut as a teenager under David Moyes, going on to play 127 times for the Toffees and shoot to prominence as one of England’s most promising young players. He moved to Chelsea in 2018 for £ 15 million.
Berkley qualifies to play for Nigeria but is cap tied to England.

Washington commanders’ Brian Robinson shot

0
  • Brian Robinson was shot Sunday but is in stable condition after the incident
  • The running back was hit in the ‘leg and hip’ but was in ‘good spirits’ after
  • Robinson was slated to be the starting running back for Washington

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson is in a ‘really good place’ according to coach Ron Rivera after being shot in an attempted robbery Sunday night, with the running back also sharing a positive update Monday, reports Jake Nisse For Dailymail.Com.

On his Instagram Monday, Robinson said, ‘Surgery went well! Thanks for the prayers! God is great!’

It was revealed Monday that the 23-year-old was hit in both the leg and hip, according to WTOP News, but a return to football this season has not been ruled out.
‘I can’t get into specifics of it other than to say he’s doing well,’ Rivera told reporters Monday.

‘I had an opportunity to visit with him last night, which was really a relief and kind of cool because he was in a really good place. The doctors were very positive with him and he was very positive as well.

He’s very fortunate, it’s a very unfortunate situation. He’s doing well, it’s just gonna be a matter of time before he’s back out here. There is no timeline, but, as I said, everything’s been very positive.’

Brian Robinson shared a positive update to his Instagram Monday, saying ‘surgery went well!’

Rivera also said that Robinson could be released from the hospital today.

In a statement Sunday night, a DC Metro Police spokesman said the shooting occurred just before 6:00 pm local time along the H Street Corridor near Ben’s Chili Bowl in the northeast part of the city. The spokesman added they are looking for two juveniles in relation to the shooting.

It was revealed Monday morning, though, that the incident took place at Crab Boss, not Ben’s Chili Bowl, according to WTOP.

Ron Rivera was able to share a positive update about Robinson on Monday morning

Just hours after the incident, Robinson’s Washington Commanders teammates returned to practice Monday.

And Robinson’s position-mates were spotted huddling with running backs coach Randy Jordan before they went to go work with quarterbacks, per The Washington Times.

Jordan huddling the position group is ‘not normally the case.’

Robinson was reportedly in line for the starting job before the unfortunate incident, with ESPN saying last week he ‘appears to have supplanted [Antonio Gibson] as the main runner’ on the team.

Robinson was a third-round pick out of Alabama in this year’s draft and had 14 rushing touchdowns for the Crimson Tide last season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi heads to Bundesliga

0
Chelsea News reports that attacking prodigy, Callum Hudson-Odoi will be heading to Bayer Leverkusen on loan in just a matter of days after a loan deal was agreed.
Fabrizio Romano has just Tweeted that it’s a “done deal” for the winger to move to the Bundesliga, all these years after he almost joined Bayern Munich as a teenager.
There is apparently no purchase clause in the deal, although we would imagine both parties would be interested in making it a permanent move should the season go well.
It’s a shame to see CHO go – it felt like he was so close to really breaking through into consistent form at times last season – but for the good of his career, this is probably the right move.
He fell out of favour later in the season, and as so many times before in his career wasn’t able to turn some good games into a good season.

What’s holding up ‘Auba to Chelsea’

0
Chelsea are trying to hand Thomas Tuchel the striker who he has asked for this summer transfer window, but it is a deal that has been dragging on, Simon Phillips writes for Chelsea News.

It’s got to the point now where the big decisions need to be made on this deal and whether they need to walk away and pursue a different target or not. Because this has turned into another one of those transfer sagas, and it is still currently not clear whether the deal will get over the line or not.

Tuchel clearly wants Aubameyang, and the player also wants to go to Chelsea, having already agreed to personal terms.

But the one major issue holding it up right now is Chelsea trying to make Marcos Alonso part of the same deal, whereas it was always believed Barcelona wanted to do that deal separately. So the bottom line is, that there is still no agreement on the fee, but talks continue.

Important meetings will take place in the next 24h to decide how to proceed. Chelsea insists to include Alonso.

Armed men rob Aubameyang’s home

0

Agence France-Presse reports that at least four men broke into Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s home in Castelldefels near Barcelona through the garden, threatened him and his wife with guns and iron bars, and hit him, daily El Pais reported.

Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the victim of a violent armed robbery at his home early Monday, the Spanish club said. “He is ok now, scared but ok,” a Barcelona source told AFP, confirming press reports. At least four men broke into his home in Castelldefels near Barcelona through the garden, threatened him and his wife with guns and iron bars, and hit him, daily El Pais reported. The newspaper reported that the thieves fled by car after forcing Gabon international to open a safe and make off with jewels that were inside.

A spokeswoman for Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, confirmed they were investigating a violent robbery in Castelldefels but refused to identify the victim, citing privacy rules.

“The investigation remains open and we are gathering information,” she told AFP.

The incident comes as Aubameyang is linked with a return to the Premier League after interest from Chelsea.

He joined Barcelona in February from Arsenal after reportedly having fallen out with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta due to disciplinary breaches.

Several high profile footballers in Spain have been subject to robberies though most of these break-ins occur while the stars are playing.

In June police arrested six people in connection with the three-million-euro burglary at the house belonging to former Brazil forward Ronaldo.

Paris Saint-Germain player Marco Verratti was staying at Ronaldo’s house in Ibiza but was not home when the burglars struck, taking jewellery and money.

Yann Sommer breaks Bundesliga record

0

Borussia Monchengladbach’s Yann Sommer produced 19 spectacular saves against Bayern Munich – a Bundesliga record. The Swiss goalkeeper was influential in securing a 1-1 draw for his side, Agence France-Presse reports.

Borussia Moenchengladbach maintained its strong recent record against Bayern Munich as a record-breaking performance from keeper Yann Sommer helped secure a 1-1 away draw on Saturday.

After the game, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann quipped to Sommer: “You know, you could take a week off sometime” on Sky Germany’s post-match interview panel.

Sommer’s 19 saves in one game is the most in the Bundesliga since record-keeping started in 1993-94, easily eclipsing the previous record of 14.

Nagelsmann expressed his “annoyance” with the refereeing of Daniel Schlager, saying “he called every 50-50 situation for Gladbach.” Nagelsmann picked up a yellow card late in the match for asking an assistant referee if his headset was working.

Gladbach coach Daniel Farke lauded Sommer’s “world-class performance” and his side’s “show of will.”

“Normally you are disappointed when you get a late equalizer. It’s different today.”

Bayern began in dominant fashion, pinning Gladbach in its own penalty area.

Former Liverpool striker Sadio Mane had the ball in the net twice in two minutes in the first half, but both efforts were pulled back for offside.

With Bayern launching wave after wave of relentless pressure, a goal seemed a mere formality, but it was the visitors who took the lead when French striker Marcus Thuram took advantage of an error from countryman Dayot Upamecano to put Gladbach up 1-0 in the shadows of halftime.

Bayern continued to dominate and almost equalized in the 61st minute through Mane, but Sommer somehow stopped the Senegalese twice in quick succession from close range, before pulling off a one-on-one stop against Leroy Sane.

As the game wore on, frustration began to creep into the Bayern game, with Joshua Kimmich, Marcel Sabitzer, Sane and Nagelsmann all picking up avoidable second-half yellow cards.

Jamal Musiala, brought on by Nagelsmann with 67 minutes gone, set up the equalizer in the 82nd minute, sliding a pass through for Sane to curl the ball past Sommer into the net.

Bayern went close several times in the closing stages, but Sommer ensured Gladbach remain unbeaten this season.

Alongside, Bayern in top spot sit Union Berlin, who won 6-1 away at Schalke earlier on Saturday.

Union, which welcomes Bayern to the German capital next weekend, won through braces from Sheraldo Becker and Sven Michel, along with strikes from Morten Thorsby and Janik Haberer.

The Berlin club, which will begin its first ever Europa League campaign in September, is unbeaten after five competitive games in 2022-23.

Berlin coach Urs Fischer did not want his team to get carried away with the “lucky” win.

“Our 3-1 halftime lead was lucky. Schalke was better, more aggressive and more agile than us,” the Swiss manager told Germany’s SID.

French striker Anthony Modeste thanked Dortmund coach Edin Terzic after his first-half goal gave his side a narrow 1-0 win away at Hertha Berlin.

Modeste headed in a cross from former Cologne teammate Salih Ozcan in the 32nd minute to put Dortmund 1-0 up. Modeste, who is known for his theatrical celebrations which often involve dancing and even props, ran to Terzic and embraced him after scoring his first for Dortmund.

“I’ve copped so much (since arriving at Dortmund), but the manager was always there for me.”

Elsewhere, RB Leipzig gained its first Bundesliga win of the season with a 2-0 home victory over Wolfsburg. Leipzig’s French forward Christopher Nkunku converted a penalty after five minutes and tapped in a cross from Timo Werner late in the second half.

Bayer Leverkusen picked up their first points of the season with a 3-0 win away at Mainz.

Leverkusen, which had scored just one goal in three Bundesliga games and had already been eliminated from the German Cup, scored three first-half goals, including a brace for Dutch wing back Jeremie Frimpong.

Hoffenheim won its third game of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Augsburg, thanks to a first-half goal from Dennis Geiger.

Potential Tyson Fury vs Oleksander Usyk

Bob Arum attempts to provide the Brit with £500m payday

  • Bob Arum is working to secure a fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

  • The 90-year-old has named the Middle East and Las Vegas as possible locations

  • Arum said Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are all potential destinations

  • He also insisted that a fight between Fury and Usyk will take place early in 2023

Legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum remains relaxed about securing a deal for Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight unification bout with a target date of the first three months of 2023, Ryan Walker writes for Mailonline.

Those involved in brokering a deal between the Englishman and the Ukrainian remain positive heading into negotiations as both camps decide on fight purses, location, and other particulars.

But Arum whose company Top Rank represent Fury, insists that sorting out a location for the heavyweight decider should be an easy task with so many options available.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been earmarked as a potential stage following Usyk’s recent rematch victory over Brit Anthony Joshua, while Las Vegas and Wembley are other attractive propositions.

Speaking to BoxingScene.com, Arum gave an insight into the ongoing discussions, admitting that securing a location is the top priority.

Arum helped negotiate a deal for Fury’s Las Vegas trilogy bouts with American Deontay Wilder

‘Saudi Arabia I think had a good experience with the last fight that they did,’ Arum said in reference to the Usyk-Joshua rematch at Jeddah Superdome.

‘And Qatar is hosting this enormous World Cup event [in November and December], so they might be interested.

‘And then, I’m sure Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, will be interested. So, yeah, we’ll take all of that into account.

‘And there is a lot of interest from people in the United States. I think there’s a group of casinos in Las Vegas that are trying to get together and bring the event to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

‘So, that’s all up in the air. We’ll all decide what the best deal is. It’ll be in consultation with Queensberry, Frank Warren and his son, George, and the fighters. But we’re in a great position.’

Arum (left) has earmarked Qatar and Saudi Arabia as potential fight locations for the bout

The outspoken Fury has so far demanded £500million to get back in the ring for the unification bout, which leaves only a select few high-profile locations capable of producing the huge sums.

Fury has previously spoken of his admiration for fighting in the middle-east, but has warned promoters involved in the deal that he will pull out unless paperwork is signed by September 1.

Englishman Tyson Fury has so far demanded £500million to get back in the ring against Usyk

The self-titled Gypsy King explained his position saying:

‘To all these suitors out there who want to make the fight, I’m gonna give you all seven days – til September 1 – to come up with the money.

If not, thank you very much it’s been a blast!

‘Everyone keeps asking me about this Ukrainian guy. Are you going to fight, are you going to do this, are you going to do that?’

I

I’ve made it very clear I’m retired from boxing and I’m very happy doing that. However, I will come back but it has to be for an obscene amount of money.

‘Because let’s face it, it’s not Anthony Joshua which I would have done for free, it’s some foreigner who no one really cares about, and that’s it.’

Mouth diarrhea Jose Mourinho unleashed!

Mercilessly bashes his own players again

Jose Mourinho said he was ‘ashamed’ of Roma’s first-half display at Juventus

The legendary manager said it was ‘pure luck’ that his team only conceded once

Mourinho also lamented his lack of options from the bench due to injuries

Roma claimed a point against Juventus thanks to a Tammy Abraham equaliser

A bad workman always quarrels with his tools. In the case of Roma boss-Jose Mourinho- his gripe is often with his own players whenever the results of his handiwork let him down.

Mourinho has expressed his disappointment with his players’ performance against Juventus, despite Roma coming away from the Allianz arena with a point, Adrian Bishop writes for Mailonline.

After an unbeaten start to the season, the former Chelsea boss’ team were handed their toughest test of the campaign so far in the form of a trip to Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus.

The game could not have got off to a worse start for Mourinho’s side, after Dusan Vlahovic struck a fantastic free-kick to give the home team the lead after just two minutes.

Juventus looked to have doubled their lead after 25 minutes through Manuel Locatelli, but the goal was ruled out by VAR due to handball in the buildup, and Mourinho’s team clung on to go into the break with a one goal deficit.

Although Tammy Abraham’s second-half equaliser would ultimately secure a point for Roma, Jose Mourinho expressed his disappointment in his team’s performance following the final whistle.

‘I told my players at half-time that I was ashamed of them. It wasn’t a tactical issue, it was their attitude. We can’t come here and play like this. I was telling Salvatore (Foti) on the bench, pray that it’s only 1-0. Because losing 1-0 is a fantastic result after that first half performance and we were very fortunate.’ Mourinho explained to DAZN after the game.

We did absolutely nothing, it was pure luck. It was a very different team in the second half, although unfortunately I didn’t have many options to bring off the bench, with Zaniolo and Wijnaldum injured.’

Despite the manager’s frustrations with his team’s lacklustre start, the Europa Conference League champions Roma, now sit joint-top of Serie A, and are still to lose this season.

Roma will look to continue their positive start to the campaign when they host Serie A new boys Monza on Tuesday.
