Barcelona set to give Chelsea clear path to sign £55m France international

0

Barcelona appear to have given up in the race to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

According to a recent report from leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan giants are not prepared to match Chelsea’s £55m offer.

Not only that but Todd Boehly’s decision to offer the French defender a whopping £8.5m (€10m) salary may not be something Xavi’s Barcelona can compete with.

Should Sevilla agree to let Kounde move to Stamford Bridge, the 23-year-old will become Thomas Tuchel’s third summer signing after Raheem Sterling joined from Man City and Kalidou Koulibaly arrived from Napoli.

Blues’ fans will be keeping everything crossed that their club can finally reach an agreement with their Spanish rivals. After losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger at the end of the season after both defenders failed to extend their contracts, the 2020-21 Champions League winners are desperately short of centre-back options.

Kounde would prove a versatile addition. Not only can the Frenchman play at centre-back as part of a back four or five, he can also fill in at full-back and that could prove invaluable if Cesar Azpilicueta leaves before the start of next season.

West Ham dealt hammer blow as new signing ruled out for three months

0

David Moyes will be pulling his hair out if recent reports are true that new signing Nayef Aguerd has been ruled out through injury for three months.

According to a recent report from BeIN Sports, the former Stade Rennes defender will miss the third quarter of the year after injuring himself during a pre-season friendly against Scottish side Rangers earlier this week.

Aguerd, 26, was only signed by Moyes earlier this summer.

After reaching an agreement worth £31.5m with Stade Rennes, Moyes would have felt relieved to have finally added a new centre-back to his squad.

However, now set for a significant spell on the sidelines, the Scottish tactician will have no choice but to postpone the Moroccan defender’s competitive debut.

Hammers fans will be hoping that the club will soon be able to provide some more information on the 26-year-old’s recent injury, but although they will be hoping for the best, these latest reports will make them fear the worst.

Report: West Ham agree £30.5m deal to sign prolific Serie A striker

0

West Ham United have reportedly agreed a £30.5m deal to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

That’s according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, who claims the Hammers are on the verge of confirming Scamacca as their fifth signing of the summer.

David Moyes has already signed Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola, Nathan Trott and marquee defender Nayef Aguerd from Stade Rennes.

However, the Londoners’ spending looks set to continue with Scamacca seemingly edging closer to becoming a Hammer.

The 23-year-old forward was also rumored to have been a target for Arsenal. Super-agent Roberto De Fanti recently claimed Mikel Arteta’s Gunners made an offer for Sassuolo’s number 91 earlier in the summer.

“It is rumored throughout the industry that Arsenal made a £25m (€30m) offer to Sassuolo for Scamacca in the last couple of days,” De Fanti wrote in his exclusive column last month.

“The club’s general manager also said that it is very likely the striker will leave to play in the Premier League.”

However, where Arsenal missed out, West Ham appear to have benefited.

Since forcing his way through Sassuolo youth academy, Scamacca, who has four years left on his deal, has gone on to feature in 41 senior matches, in all competitions, directly contributing to 17 goals along the way.

Tuchel’s comments suggest Chelsea have an alternative to Kounde in mind

0

It’s always risky to try and rebuild a defence in one transfer window, but Chelsea don’t have much of a choice after the key departures of Rudiger and Christensen this summer.

It’s also not completely clear if Thomas Tuchel plans to keep going with a three-at-the-back formation or if he wants to transition to a more traditional back four, although the presence of Thiago Silva suggests a three is still more likely.

They already have Kalidou Koulibaly to bolster their ranks, and there are plenty of reports that suggest Sevilla star Jules Kounde was going to be the final piece of the puzzle.

You do want balance at the back so a left-footed player would make more sense, and these latest comments from the manager suggest that they might be looking elsewhere for the next recruit: If Tuchel is after someone who’s more naturally left-sided then that would give more credence to reports claiming that Nathan Ake could be on his way back to Stamford Bridge, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Tuchel prepared to pull plug on deal with Barcelona as plan for new signing emerges

Thomas Tuchel is not impressed by Barcelona’s pursuit of Cesar Azpilicueta.

That’s according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who claims the German tactician is ‘annoyed’ by Xavi’s side’s attempts to ‘unsettle’ his captain.

Azpilicueta, 32, is one of the Londoners’ longest-serving players.

Having arrived at Stamford Bridge from French side Marseille a decade ago, the Spaniard has cemented himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever defenders.

Versatile and incredibly reliable, Azpilicueta, even at the age of 32, would still be a great addition to any top European club.

However, Barcelona, who are rumored to be keeping tabs on Azpilicueta, may end up missing out after Kinsella claims Tuchel may end up pulling the plug on a potential approach to sign the 32-year-old, who has just one year left on his contract.

Interestingly, Kinsella goes on to report that new defensive signing Kalidou Koulibaly could end up providing emergency cover on the left side of a centre-back partnership.

It isn’t all bad news for the Blues though. Sevilla defender and long-time transfer target Jules Kounde appears to be edging closer to becoming the club’s third signing of the summer.

Arsenal are ready to double Bukayo Saka’s wages to end Man City interest

It wasn’t necessarily the case that Arsenal were happy to sell their best players to rival clubs in recent years, it’s just that bad contract management often left them no choice but to accept what they could as a transfer fee.

That does seem to be shifting in recent years as they’re being more proactive with extending deals early, and it looks like that’s the case with Bukayo Saka as well after the latest report from the Daily Mail.

They confirm that he still has two years left on his deal so this might not be a pressing matter this summer, but time goes past quickly and it could easily become a situation where he’s close to the last year of his deal and they have to accept a below-market bid.

It’s thought that Man City are interested in signing the England star, but Arsenal are willing to offer him more than double his current £70k per-week salary in order to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

If that happens then it’s great news for the Gunners as it shows that things are changing and they don’t always need to sell their better players, but there may be a problem in that Saka wants regular UCL football and it remains to be seen if that’s something that Mikel Arteta can deliver.

At this stage, it’s believed that the offer has been made to Saka although he’s yet to formally respond, so an imminent agreement still feels a little way off.

Ghizlane Chebbak looking to create unique African football family legacy

0

Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak will walk onto the Moulay Abdellah pitch for the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final tomorrow night looking to carry on a special family legacy.

She has a chance of creating her own unique piece of African football history by becoming the first daughter to emulate her father in becoming an African champion, just like her dad Larbi Chebbak did when he won the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco’s men’s national team in 1976.

“This is an opportunity for us to be African champions and a chance for us to make all the people of Morocco happy, not only my family. We will give everything for the people who have been behind us since the beginning of the competition. The massive presence of the public is going to be a motivation for all of us. Maybe in the first game there was a bit of pressure because we had never played in front of so many people before, but quickly we adapted to it and today it is a great motivation to play in front of our supporters. We will do everything to make them happy,” the Moroccan captain said on the eve of the WAFCON 2022 final against South Africa.

She may emphasize that she plays for the whole Moroccan nation and not just her family, but her late father has naturally been on her mind during the home country’s fairytale run to the final.

She posted a tribute to her father on her social media profile last week, saying “I hope I am making you proud”.

She has already more than lived up to her father’s legacy with a fantastic tournament that she has been a major part of with her high-pressure goals for Morocco, but now she and the Atlas Lionesses want to go all the way.

“The whole group knew that this tournament could change a lot of things in women’s football in Morocco and that if we gave a good account of ourselves it would encourage the growth of women’s football,” who praised the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for their work over the years in developing women’s football and helping the under 17 women’s national team qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

The Atlas Lionesses have also booked their ticket to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 at this tournament.

Now they want to cap the perfect WAFCON for the home country by lifting the trophy and sending their country into a female football frenzy.

Kick off for the WAFCON 2022 final is at 21h00 local time.

Zambia stun Nigeria to win WAFCON bronze medal

0
Zambia pulled off a major shock by beating Nigeria 1-0 on Friday to win the bronze medal at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Copper Queens clinched the third position for the first time in their history thanks to an unfortunate own goal by the Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie in Casablanca.

The goal inadvertently scored by the Super Falcons shot-stopper Nnadozie was enough for the Zambians to claim their first medal in the history of the tournament.

The Queens got the better of the record title holders Nigeria who paid the price for their profligacy and finished outside the top three for the first time in ten years.

Bruce Mwape’s ladies showed early glimpses of an upset in the game with some delightful display which paid off at the half-hour mark.

But the Super Falcons were a constant threat with Ngozi Okobi Okeoghene and Christy Ucheibe failing to score from decent opportunities.

A thunderous strike from Evarine Katongo from the edge of the box struck the

woodwork but Nnadozie could not deal with the rebound as the ball hit her to enter the net on 29 minutes.

Nigerian star Gift Monday struck the post before Zambia goalkeeper Hazel Nali produced an amazing save to stop Ashleigh Plumptre’s freekick just before the break.

Nigeria came into the second half with a different attitude as they tried to get the equaliser but the Zambians dealt with any threat that came their way.

The Copper Queens held onto their lead to ensure the bronze medal remained theirs with Nigerian finishing outside the top three since the 2012 tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 Card: Who is fighting?

0

By Mellisa Coetzee-Volmink

A new date has been set for Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch later this summer as AJ tries to win back his world championships.

Joshua and his Ukrainian opponent were originally scheduled to fight in May and then again in July, but delays in the negotiations caused the bout to be postponed even longer. Usyk’s native Ukraine, where Russia is at war, undoubtedly affected the decision to hold a rematch with Joshua.

Usyk, 35, went home earlier this year to take part in the conflict with Russia that has been raging since February.

Below is some more information on the Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 fight card.

Tyson Fury offers to fight Anthony Joshua for free, on free TV, with free tickets for fans

Mike Coppinger, ESPN

Tyson Fury announced his retirement in April, but it doesn’t appear the heavyweight champion’s hiatus will last long.

Since Fury’s sixth-round TKO win over Dillian Whyte in April in London, “The Gypsy King” has repeatedly flip-flopped between expressing his desire to fight again and remain retired.

Earlier this summer, Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) claimed the only way he would come out of retirement is for a $500 million purse. Now, in a drastic shift, Fury claimed on Wednesday that he’ll step inside the ropes again only for a bout with rival Anthony Joshua in the United Kingdom — for free.

“That’s how the fight happens, I’ll sign the contract today,” Fury, 33, said on his Instagram. “The fight’s got to be for free. Free-to-air television and all tickets go for free. No money is to be made out of this British historic fight if it happens. There are the terms, I’m in the driving seat, take it or effing leave it. The ball is in your court, guys. … Either way, I don’t give a damn.”

Of course, this is completely contradictory to Fury’s contentious negotiations with Joshua last year for a fight that was ultimately scrapped when an arbitrator ruled Fury owed Deontay Wilder a third fight. Saudi Arabia officials were prepared to dole out more than $150 million for the rights to that undisputed heavyweight championship fight.

Instead, Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) went on to lose his three heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk in September, and Fury proceeded to knock out Wilder in a trilogy battle one month later.

Now, Usyk and Joshua, 32, are set to rematch on Aug. 20 in Saudi Arabia, while Fury surely will be approached with a large sum of money to meet the winner.
