Nigeria international midfielder returns to training

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is back in training and could be selected to face Tottenham FC at the King Power stadium in one of the Premier league matches this weekend.

Disclosing this at a press conference heralding the encounter, Leicester City manager Brenden Rodgers said the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Jonny Evans, Boubakare Soumare and Daniel Amartey are fully recovered from their injuries and are available for selection.

Ndid has been sidelined for 3 weeks. He was not included in the 2-2 home draw against Brighton and Hove Albion, the 4-2 away win against Aston Villa, and the 1- 0 away win against Walsall in the FA cup fourth round.

Rodgers also stressed that the players will help balance the team against a formidable side like Tottenham.

“All players have to be competitive. You need one controlling the game from behind. You need a running player who can break the lines with and without the ball. Then you need one who can create and score. All three have to run. I always like to have more midfield players. That’s where the game begins. It sets you up. We have choices in there,” Rodgers added.

The Foxes currently occupy the 14th position with 21 points from 21 matches, 3 points above the relegation zone.

Leicester City needs at least 40 to 42 points to remain in the Premier League next season.

The Athletics integrity Unit ( AIU) has notified Divine Oduduru of two potential anti-doping rule violations (ADRV’s) and is seeking a six year ban against the Nigerian.

In a press statement by AIU , Oduduru was informed of the potential ADRV’s for possession (rule 2.6 of the World Athletics anti-doping (ADR) and the use or attempted use of multiple prohibited substances ((Rule 2.2 ADR)

According to the statement, these alledged Violations stem from AIU investigation based on information in a criminal charge brought against US based “naturopathic” therapist Eric Lira, on 12 January, 2022 by the United States Department of Justice under the Rodchenkov act.

Lira was alledged to have supplied performance enhancing drugs to athletes before the Tokyo Olympic Games (delayed until summer 2021) because of the covid 19 pandemic)

The complaint against Lira provides specific information regarding persons identified as athlete 1 and athlete 2

“In February 2022 , a sole arbitrator concluded that they were comfortably satisfied that athlete 1 was Oduduru, teammate Blessing Okagbare, who is already serving an eleven-year AIU ban for her offences.

Based on the information in the complaint , including text conversations imaged from Okagbare’s mobile phone by the Federal Bereau of Investigation (FBI) and further Investigation, the AIU alledges that Oduduru is the second athlete in the complaint.

ILMC orders 3SC to improve Stadium

Directive forces Kwara United to ponder moving home games to Akure or Ijebu Ode

The Interim League Management Committee (ILMC) on Monday directed the management of shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan to improve the playing turf of the stadium, which also hosts Kware united home games.

The ILMC  mandate has forced the management of Kwara United FC of Ilorin to consider moving their home matches from the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, to Akure township stadium or the Dipo Dina international stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Kware united media officer Bashir Jimoh who dropped this hint in an interview with Sports Joust, said, “We are ready to work with 3SC to improve the state of the turf. We’ll try wetting the grass and see if there will be any improvement.

“While trying to put the turf in good shape, we should also be looking at alternative venues in case the management of both clubs fail to meet the ILMC deadline.

The interim League Management Committee has mandated 3SC to complete work on the turf before the end of the first half of the season.

Bashir also stressed further that the Ilorin township stadium, home of Kwara United, is currently under renovation, with the projected completion date set for May.

“We are not returning to Ilorin until the stadium is ready to host our home matches,” Bashir insisted.

The interim League Management Committee wants all the clubs to comply with its rules and regulations to enable the Nigeria league to attract good sponsors.

Kwara United is currently 8th on the abridged group A table with 5 points from 6 matches, while Shooting Stars is 6th with 7 points from the same number of games.

Nigeriaa is awash with footballing talents

José Peseiro charges Golden Eaglets to keep working hard

José Santos Peseiro

After watching the training sessions of the U17 boys, Golden Eaglets on Monday morning at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project pitch, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Super Eagles head coach, José Santos Peseiro says Nigeria is awash with football talents.

“I am impressed with what I have seen with the performance of the players here. Nigeria is known for having very talented players, so I am therefore not surprised with the performance of these players,” Peseiro says.

The Portuguese tactician then charged the teenagers to keep improving their game as preparations for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations in Algeria goes to the wire. Paseiro also advised players that would eventually be dropped not to be dejected as that would not be the end of their football career.

“You have to keep working hard and keep improving your game. Unfortunately, not all the players here will be selected. You should not give up if you fail to make the final team,” he adds.

The Golden Eaglets have been drawn in Group B of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations in Algeria, where the team will trade tackles with Zambia, Morocco and South Africa in the city of Constantine.

Pray for Christian Atsu-Dankwa Akufo-Ado

Christian Atsu: Who is the charity-focused footballer found in the rubble after Turkey's earthquake?

President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Ado has called for prayers for Ghanaian International player Christian Atsu who is currently receiving treatment in a Turkish hospital after an earthquake in the country.

A report from Turkey says Atsu suffered injuries to his right foot and was experiencing breathing difficulties due to lack of oxygen since he was trapped inside the rubble.

More than 3,000 people have been confirmed dead in Turkey and neighboring Syria after quakes measuring 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude scale hit in the early hours of  Monday.

President Addo, who urged Ghanaians to pray for Atsu via his Facebook page when the news was broken on Monday, told Journalists on Tuesday that he was happy that the former Newcastle FC of England player was found alive. Still, Ghanaians should continue to pray for his speedy recovery.

” God answers prayers,” President Addo told Journalists.

He, however, commensurate with the people of Turkey and Syria over the deaths and devastation caused by the earthquake.

“on behalf of the government of Ghana, I  extend heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Turkey and Syria on the devastation and tragic loss of lives occasioned by Monday’s earthquake. May their souls rest in peace.

Victor Osimhen: New toast of Europe

Nigeria international prolific striker is now on everyone’s mind

Let me hear you say my name: Now say it Loud!

Sixteen goals from seventeen games, including 3 assists, is not a lean feat for a Serie A forward to achieve with Napoli FC of Italy, but what is outstanding is the unanimity of European football experts in their belief that the Nigeria international gangling forward Victor Osimhen is the toast of European football at the moment.

That general assumption of the immense talent on offer in Osimhen have seen him become the major toasts of European club managers and it is just as well.

The Napoli forward is so much on the roll these days that even the hard-to-impress Roma boss José Mourinho had to pull the Nigerian forward aside as he terrorized his side in a Serie A for a brief coaching advice on how to impress even more going forward.

Morinho advice to the Napoli star forward was to cut down on diving and be more bullish. The Portuguese gaffer later rued his luck for not being able to afford the rave of the moment striker lamenting: “He is the same level as Didier Drogba, but Didier didn’t dive. If Victor changes, Ok.”

If wishes were horses, Mourinho would gladly have Osimhen within his fold and not outside it.

“I’d buy him if I was at a Club with lots of money,” Mourinho confessed.

However, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal FC, and Paris Saint-Germain all rolling up their sleeves for a battle to acquire Osimhen, who and just what is Mourinho’s Roma in the catalog of Europe’s big club spenders who are ever more than determined to acquire such a huge star?

Napoli now reckon that Osimhen is worth at least 90 million pounds for the asking. This was after two futile attempts by Manchester United-the last being at the just closed January transfer- to buy Osimhen. But it does not appear as if the last has been heard from manager Erik Ten Hag’s Old Trafford concerning the acquisition of the Napoli superstar.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t RMC Sport), citing sources, the Red Devils are polishing off a €120 million (128,299,200.00 United States Dollars) offer to Napoli to allow Osimhen to head for Old Trafford in June.

Osimhen could be used to fortify the Red Devils attack line and be a viable option for manager Erik Ten Hag, who presently applies Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial to the top-nine role.

Chelsea FC, Manchester United’s Premier League rival, paid out just the equivalent price for talismanic midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica last month. Sky Sport pundit Clinton Morrison is convinced of Chelsea’s desperate need of a dependable goalscorer and Napoli’s Osimhen’s ability to ideally fill that void.

Image

Graham Potter’s Chelsea have already rued their ill luck in the acquisition of Gabon international and former Barcelona FC forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has simply misfired since arriving Stamford Bridge in June, and Osimhen could be the likely quick-fix.

Chelsea have managed a paltry 22 goals in 21 matches in the Premier League this season, are significantly the least-scoring side in the top wrung of the log.

No surprises as Kai Havertz, with just five goals in the league, heads Chelsea’s goalscoring chart this season.

The arrival of accomplished and talented attacking options like Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk may help boost the striking production at Stamford Bridge, but several pundits like Morrison, feel Chelsea needs a proper number nine.

“They spent all that money and they don’t have a natural number nine that can put the ball in the net,” Morrison, a former Crystal Palace forward told Sky Sports (via HITC) while reviewing Chelsea’s attacking debacle.

“Victor Osimhen, the boy at Napoli, I do like. I think there are a lot of big clubs watching him. I think he could suit Chelsea.”

Image

Victor Osimhen: My love, I give you. All my love, I leave with you!

There is word-out of Parc des Princes suggests that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), also have the Zorro from Naples deep in their thoughts.

There appers to be several things PSG want to know about Osimhen to move forward.

“They’ll have to know if Osimhen is the player they want to compete for the striker role; they’ll have to know it will cost them a significant sum,” Eduardo posted in PSG Talk, the Parisien side’s official news and opinion forum.

“Les Parisiens brought Hugo Ekitike last summer’s transfer window from Stade de Reims. The 20-year-old arrived in the French capital on loan with an obligation to buy, so it will be interesting to see if sporting advisor Luis Campos wants to spend that type of money on another striker.”

According to Gerry Crisandy of The Chelsea Chronicle, Osimhen, who has scored up 16 times and provided three assists in 17 Serie A appearances this season, is assuredly one of the hottest goalscoring forwards in Europe at present.

Any transfer transaction involving the 24-year-old Nigerian, however, is expected to gross in excess of £100million.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed Atsu has been found alive in the rubble of a collapsed building

Former Newcastle United forward Christian Atsu has been rescued from the rubble of a building which collapsed during the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, the Ghana Football Association and his club, Hatayspor, have confirmed, Ryan Dabbs writes for FourFourTwo.

Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria on Monday morning, followed by a second measuring 7.5, Atsu was reportedly missing along with Hatayspor sporting director Taner Savut.

Atsu has since been pulled from the rubble with injuries, but is receiving treatment in hospital, the Ghana Football Association confirmed.

The Ghanaian Football Association tweeted: “We’ve received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment. Let’s continue to pray for Christian.”

While Atsu has been rescued, there is no confirmation on Savut’s situation.

Hatayspor vice-president, Mustafa Özat, also told Turkish radio station, Radyo Gol: “Christian Atsu was removed from the wreckage with injuries.

“Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble. Hatay was deeply affected. We are coming towards the end of the most dangerous hours.”

Indeed, Hatay is one of the areas closest to the epicentre of the earthquakes, and the home city of Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor.

Just hours before the devastating earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria, killing more than 5,000 people, Atsu scored a 90th minute winning free-kick against Kasimpasa on Sunday.

The 31-year-old joined the Turkish side at the beginning of the season, following a spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Raed. Atsu most notably played 121 times in all competitions across five seasons for Newcastle United.

He joined Chelsea in 2013 but failed to make an appearance for the club, before loan spells at Everton, Bournemouth, and Newcastle, among others.

Everton, one of Atsu’s former clubs, responded to the good news about him on social media, tweeting (opens in new tab): “We are relieved to hear Christian Atsu has been found and is recovering in hospital. Our thoughts continue to be with everyone affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.”
