South Africa star Percy Tau says his side is hunting for a positive result against Nigeria in Uyo

Percy Tau, Bafana Bafana forward says his side is coming to Uyo, Nigeria purposed at getting a positive result against the Super Eagles on Friday.

AEW Dynamite: Strickland defeats Strong

To sets up the challenge of AEW International Champion Will Ospreay for the AEW World Championship

CONTAINS SPOILERS

AEW DYNAMITE was broadcast live on TBS from the Blue Arena in Loveland, CO!

Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone were the broadcast team for tonight’s event.

It’s Wednesday night and you know what that means!

The returning MJF kicked off the show!

MJF: “Cut my music! Cut my music! MJF is back! I’m here to put everybody on notice. While I was out nursing my wounds, sitting at home, I’m watching a ton of children make bold claims on my show. I’ve got one guy walking around saying he’s the ‘Rainmaker.’ The guy can’t even afford a gym membership.

“Another guy was swerving around, claiming he’s the leader of the Mogul Embassy. Hell of a leader. They turned on you. The part that offended me is that you referred to yourself as a business mogul. The most egregious claim was from a cockney walking around saying, ‘Oy, I’m the best in the world, bruv.’ That’s real interesting Willie. Last time I checked you’re not Kenny Omega, Danielson, Cody, Moxley, but you know who happened to beat all of them? That’s right…MJF. So the next time you want to come on my show and lie, watch your tone and check your mouth. Silly Billy, you’re not the best in the world, bruv. I am!

“In five short years, I became the face of AEW. I became the most hated man walking this planet only to become the most beloved. And that doesn’t happen by accident. So imagine how I felt when I went home after carrying this place and people had the audacity to smear my name. Revisionists trying to revise my name, my legacy…”

Rush walked onto the ramp and interrupted MJF!

Rush: “You never shut up! Listen to me but listen well. While you’ve been gone, I’ve been here working hard, wrestling, winning. So now you come back, and you get a big celebration. Where’s my celebration? Where’s my big moment? I’m going to take your spot because when you mess with the bull, you get the horns!”

MJF: “OK, listen, I didn’t get any of that. Rush, can you run that by us one more time?”

Rush: “I said—”

MJF: “We don’t give a s—t! At one point in time, I paid a lot of money for you to take out Bryan Danielson. I know how talented you are. You sold out arena after arena in Mexico. You came to the U.S. and in record time you became ROH World Champion. But here’s the problem. I ain’t one of the best. I’m the best. But out of respect, love, and admiration for you, I want to tell you how interrupting me made me feel. I’m better than you and—”

Rush charged the ring and Rush and MJF began to brawl! Christopher Daniels, interim executive vice president, and AEW security jumped into the ring to try to separate Rush and MJF!

Backstage Jack Perry had harsh words for Mark Briscoe!

So, Tony Khan can try to screw me over as many times as he wants. But I can’t be stopped. The universe has already chosen me and one way or another I am the next TNT Champion!”

Renee Paquette was backstage with Samoa Joe and HOOK!

Renee: “Is it safe to call you Hook’s new mentor?”

Samoa Joe: “I wouldn’t call it a mentorship…”

Tony Nese interrupted HOOK and mocked HOOK for eating a bag of chips.

HOOK: “You still losing matches?”

The Premier Athletes—Nese and Ariya Daivari grabbed the bag away from HOOK and mocked him. Samoa Joe held HOOK back.

Samoa Joe: “We’re going to handle that but we’re going to do it on our time.”

EVPs Matthew and Nicholas Jackson appeared on the big screen above the ramp and stopped Caster.

Nicholas: “Sorry, not sorry, but we had to cut your microphones.”

Matthew: “You should know better. Didn’t you read the AEW Employee Handbook? It says, ‘Do not disparage your EVPs.’ Your segment is cut tonight!”

Renee Paquette was backstage with AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana!

Swerve: “First of all, welcome back MJF, you little bitch. Finally, you show up to work and you mention my name. I’m going to deal with you. I have the signed contract right here for Forbidden Door. Prince Nana, I’m going to need you to send this to Will Ospreay. So tonight, my match with Roderick Strong, understand you are dealing with the mountain of professional wrestling. I’m not just going to knock you off of it, I’m going to bury you under it.

“What’s been on my mind is the EVPs. Them winning at Double Or Nothing. I was rooting for Team AEW. Make sure the next time that you assemble Team AEW to represent Team AEW that you don’t forget the AEW World Champion.”

Rugido power slammed Yuta for a near fall. Volador hit the déjà vu on Claudio but Danielson met him with a charging knee strike. Yuta planted Rugido and pinned him with the seatbelt!

“Let’s hear it for the kid,” said Schiavone.

A video package aired of Daniel Garcia back home in Buffalo, NY!

Garcia: “Life is too short for opportunities to come. You have to take it upon yourself. Last week I challenged Will Ospreay. You cannot outwork me!”

The Acclaimed went backstage to The Elite’s dressing room!

Security kept the Acclaimed away from the EVPs.

“Sooner or later, you’re going to have to deal with us,” said Bowens.

After a commercial break, EVPs Nicholas and Matthew Jackson had more business to attend to!

Christian Cage and the Patriarchy approached the EVPs.

Christian Cage: “Guys, it’s no secret I was screwed. But if there’s anyone, I can trust it’s the EVPs. I carried this company on my shoulders for the past year. I’m going to ask for another title shot.”

Matthew: “We love you to death. If we had it our way, we’d give all of you belts. But we still have some pull here. We’ll see what we can do. I promise you, you’re going to be happy. But for the future, how about you keep scratching our back, we’ll keep scratching your back.

Saraya planted Mariah with a DDT out of nowhere, but Mariah kicked out! Saraya landed a thrust kick. Saraya tied up Mariah in a submission. Mariah had no choice but to submit. Toni got into the ring to check on Mariah, but Harley and Saraya attacked Toni and Mariah as Zak held back Luther!

Mina Shirakawa ran to the ring and clobbered Saraya and Harley with spinning back fists! Mina checked on Mariah. Toni took offense to this, and Mina and Toni had to be held apart by Mariah, who played peacemaker.

And it was made official for Forbidden Door: it’ll be champion “Timeless” Toni Storm defending her AEW Women’s World Championship against Mina Shirakawa!

Jericho approached Private Party backstage and suggested they change their name to Public Party.

Jericho invited them to TV Time with The Learning Tree Chris Jericho next week!

“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson was backstage and had some words about his last year as a full-time wrestler!

Danielson: “I said this was going to be my last year as a full-time wrestler. The truth is it hasn’t been what I wanted. I lost against Christian Cage. I lost in the Continental Classic. I lost against Okada at the Tokyo Dome. Every big match I lose, and I lose, and I lose. The straw that broke the camel’s back was losing at Anarchy In the Arena.

“I talked to Wheeler and saw how fired up he was to come back. And I realized my last year is not over yet. And when I heard Tony Khan announce that the winner of the Owen Hart Tournament is going to get a championship match for the AEW World Title at ALL IN: London at Wembley Stadium I got fired up one more time. This might be my last shot but it’s going to be the best shot I’ve had in my entire career and I’m going out on top!”

Sudan stun Mauritania in Nouakchott

As Libya secure vital win

Sudan and Libya secured vital wins while Guinea Bissau settled for a goalless draw against Ethiopia in Thursday’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Africa, CAFonline reports.

The biggest result of the afternoon was in Group B where coach Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan claimed a convincing 2-0 victory over Mauritania in Nouakchott.

Saifeldin Bakhit opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute, giving Sudan an early lead.

Mauritania’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Aly Abeid inadvertently scored an own goal in the 29th minute, doubling Sudan’s advantage.

The win propels Sudan to the top of Group B with seven points, three more than second-placed Senegal, who are set to host DR Congo in the group’s other game on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in Tripoli, Libya hosted Mauritius in a Group D encounter at the Martyrs of February Stadium.

The home side took the lead in the 20th minute through Faisal Al Abdri, but Mauritius equalized ten minutes later courtesy of Kevin Bru.

However, Libya regained the lead just before halftime, with Ahmed Ekrawa finding the back of the net in the 40th minute.

The 2-1 victory sees Libya go top of Group D with seven points, overtaking group leaders Cameroon and Cape Verde, who are scheduled to clash in Yaounde on Saturday.

In Group A, Guinea Bissau hosted Ethiopia at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, with both sides eager to keep pace with group leaders Egypt and Burkina Faso.

The match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, leaving Guinea Bissau in second place with five points.

The result maintains pressure on the group’s top two teams, who are set to face each other later on Thursday.

With Egypt and Burkina Faso set to face off in Group A, and Senegal hosting DR Congo in Group B, the landscape of these groups could change significantly by the end of Thursday’s fixtures.

Meanwhile, the upcoming match between Cameroon and Cape Verde in Group D on Saturday will provide further clarity on the group’s standings.

Malawi reignites 2026 WCQ hopes

Posts convincing win over Sao Tome & Principe

Malawi

Malawi reignited their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Sao Tome e Principe in Lilongwe on Thursday, CAFonline reports.

The Flames, who had endured a slow start to their Group H campaign, burst into life courtesy of goals from Kaonga Chawanangwa, Nkhoma Lanjesi, and Mphasi Chifundo to claim a crucial three points.

Chawanangwa set the hosts on their way with the opener after just six minutes, calmly slotting home after being played through on goal.

Lanjesi doubled Malawi’s advantage eight minutes later, rifling a low drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Sao Tome e Principe showed signs of life in the second half, with Silva Denilson reducing the deficit in the 67th minute with a well-taken strike.

However, any hopes of an unlikely comeback were extinguished 11 minutes later when Chifundo restored Malawi’s two-goal cushion with a neat finish.

The result moves the Flames into third place in Group H on six points one behind second-placed Namibia.

But they all trail leaders Tunisia, who maintained their perfect start with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, to stay top with maximum points.

For Sao Tome e Principe, the defeat leaves them rooted to the bottom of the group without a point from their opening three matches, their World Cup dream fading.

With the crucial clash against Equatorial Guinea on the horizon on Monday, the Flames have reignited their hopes of securing a place at the 2026 showpiece in North America.

Tunisia maintains perfect start in WCQ

Edges past Equatorial Guinea in Tunis

Tunisia maintained their perfect start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in Tunis on Wednesday, CAFonline reports.

In a tightly-contested Group H encounter at the Hammadi Al-Aqrabi Stadium, Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane’s 82nd-minute penalty proved the difference as the Carthage Eagles secured their third consecutive win.

Despite Equatorial Guinea dominating large portions of the match, Tunisia’s experience ultimately prevailed, allowing them to claim all three points and cement their position at the top of the group standings.

The visitors came agonizingly close to securing their first points of the campaign but were ultimately undone by Ben Ramadan’s cool finish from the spot.

Tunisia, who had earlier dispatched Malawi and Sao Tome and Principe, squandered several chances to extend their lead in the closing stages, but their wastefulness mattered little in the end as they held on for a crucial victory.

With nine points from three matches, the Carthage Eagles hold a two-point advantage over second-placed Namibia, whom they face in a crucial clash on Sunday.

For Tunisia, the win will provide a much-needed boost after their disappointing showing at the 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, where they exited at the group stage without a victory.

As they continue their pursuit of a seventh World Cup appearance and third in succession, the Carthage Eagles will take confidence from their resolute performance against a determined Equatorial Guinea outfit.

Group G leaders Algeria, with six points, will welcome Guinea, who have three points, to the “Nelson Mandela” stadium. Consequently, everyone is keen to navigate the June fixtures without any slip-ups.

Stay tuned for an action-packed week of football as African teams battle it out for their place on the global stage.

Oriental Derby: War in Enugu

As Yema says respect for Ilechukwu won’t stop Enyimba

NPFL Table 2023/2024

Ahead the Cathedral showdown in Enugu, Enyimba head coach, Yemi Daniel Olanrewaju popularly known as Yema, has warned that though he respects Rangers Fidelis Ilechukwu as a senior colleague, the match is about defending the club’s colours.

He would be leading Enyimba to Enugu where the two top teams face off at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium with swashbuckling Ilechukwu in the opposite dug-out. After hailing Ilechukwu as his senior and who would have been his boss at the defunct MFM, Yemi warned, “but everyone has to defend his club and try to get the job done.”

“He is a great guy I have a lot of respect for and nothing will change no matter the results in Enugu.”

“Ilechukwu is a senior and more like a big brother to me. He left MFM when I got there and we have a good relationship.”

Still on the Matchday 35 winner-takes-all fixture, Yemi described it as going to be “a tough game, league decider if you ask me. Rangers look like the favorites but we’ll fight till the end.”

He admitted to not having much scouting of the opponents saying, “I don’t think I know them much. The way they started the season is not the way they are playing now and the formation is also different with personnels.”

This lack of deep knowledge of the Enyimba team coupled with their inability to defeat the Flying Antelopes in Aba is not something the Coach is worried about as Accord to him, “if our two points had not been unfortunately deducted, we should be on the same points now.”

Yemi could be described as one of the new generation coaches in the Nigeria football ecosystem. He is a young Turk in the football management business with ship sized ambitions and you only have to watch his animated gesticulations on the side lines during matches to agree with this tag.

Promoted to the position of Head Coach in the wake of Finidi George’s appointment as Super Eagles manager, Yema as his fans call him is unfazed by the king-size task thrown on his young shoulders in coaching. He is barely five years into the business after starting off with Magate in 2019.

Asked if this was going to be his season of big statement as a coach, Yema played it down but insisted that he is not being boastful in claiming some credit for Enyimba’s performance so far.

“I don’t think it is a season of a big statement for me, I don’t want to praise myself but I have done well with the club even before being appointed after my big ‘bro’ Finidi left for eagles. I have handled the team for two months while he was away at AFCON and many qualifiers matches and everything was going on smoothly.”

It is not a light task to work as Coach of a club in a city where the club is hugely loved and expected to return laurels every season. The demands are not lost on him but he would rather dwell on the positives.

“I feel good to be the head coach of a big club like Enyimba. I really want to say thank you to the management led by ‘King’ Nwankwo Kanu for the trust and believe. I also wish to say thank you to Aba fans for the massive love and support I get from them always. It has been fun and interesting with support of everyone out there.”

Enyimba are two points behind Rangers as both teams go into the first of the last four games to end the season.
