‘Linesman ‘elbowed’ Liverpool’s Andy Robertson’

The PGMOL have stated they are aware of the incident involving Constantine Hatzidakis and Andy Robertson and will review the matter once Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal has finished.

A statement from the organization read: “PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded.”

Linesman Hatzidakis was heading towards referee Paul Tierney just after he had blown the half-time whistle, carrying the ball with him. Reds star Robertson approached Hatzidakis and appeared to grab the official as he walked across the pitch.

Hatzidakis reacted angrily to that though and moved his arm back in what appeared to an elbow towards Robertson’s face. The Scotland captain was left furious, with Liverpool players surrounding the trio of match officials as they attempted to leave the pitch.

Robertson, Diogo Jota and Reds skipper Jordan Henderson remonstrated with Hatzidakis and Tierney as they left the pitch. The Liverpool left-back was then booked by Tierney, to the anger of Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Henderson and Jota.

Eventually, the four were led away by a member of Liverpool’s coaching staff. Liverpool legend and Sky co-commentator Jamie Carragher gave the first indication of what had happened, tweeting: “Linesman elbow on Robertson!”

According to Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves, Robertson was furious as he headed down the tunnel. He claimed the Scot said: ” he’s just elbowed me in the throat, the linesman has elbowed me in the throat.”

While Robertson appeared to be the victim of the incident, Roy Keane blasted the Liverpool star at half-time. He accused the left-back of being a “big baby”.

“Do you know what? Does he grab the linesman first? I’m not sure, but Robertson is then complaining. He should be more worried about his defending. Do you know what he is, that Robertson?” Keane told Sky Sports.

Eze, Olise power on Robson’s Palace

The ‘Oldest coach’ in the Premiership continues his revival as Palace hammer Leeds

Eberechi Eze rounded off a slick move with Michael Olise to make it 3-1 a few minutes later

By Ed Emeanua

Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise revved up Crystal Palace to hammer struggling Leeds United 5-1 after falling a goal down, to post back-to-back Premier League wins under manager Roy Hodgson.

The enthralling win at Elland Road on Sunday without Palace’s injured talismanic top scorer Wilfried Zaha, saw the ‘Eagles’ soar with four second-half goals that flew them up to the 12th spot on the log, while Leeds stagnated on 16th position – two points atop the dreaded drop edge.

Yet, it was the home side that controlled the proceedings at the initial part of game, peppering Palace goalie Sam Johnstone few times before Patrick Bamford broke the tie just past the 21st minute mark from a well-placed header off a corner kick to dock his 50th goal for Leeds.

Johnstone then held firm by managing a handful of saves that kept the visitors in contention, before Palace punished the home side for not taking their chances to extend their lead, by equalizing on the dot of halftime off a set-piece which saw Marc Guehi tie the game with just a whisker within his reach from the goal line.

The Eagles took the second by storm scoring a couple of goals within the spate of two minutes with Jordan Ayew’s header pushing them in front, and Eberechi Eze’s effort increasing Palace’s lead to 3-1-both goals comming off assists from 21-year-old Michael Olise.

Odsonne Edouard then shot low into the bottom corner to score his first league goal from October, off another Olise assist, his third in as much as 16 minutes.

Ayew added his second goal of the game with a simple tap-in off a blocked shot that found him unmarked, for a convincing Palace victory against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya slayed the demon of his past by knocking out middleweight champion Alex Pereira at UFC 287 on Saturday night, Stephen McCaugherty reports for Heavy.com.

“The Last Stylebender” made the walk into the Octagon to battle the man who took his 185-pound strap in November via fifth-round TKO. Further, Pereira held two wins over Adesanya in kickboxing, which included a knockout. Unfazed, Adesanya met Pereira in high-stakes combat once again, but this time, he ensured it was he who reigned victoriously.

Although Pereira was highly successful with low kicks across two frames, The Last Stylebender landed a right hand that halted “Poatan” in his tracks. After a few follow-up shots, Adesanya secured UFC gold once again. The finish came at 4:21 of the second round.

With the victory, Adesanya improved his professional mixed martial arts record to 24-2. On the other end, Pereira suffered his second loss as an MMA fighter with his record falling to 7-2.

‘Nigerian star is Chiefs’ problem solver’

South African football pundit is confident Nigeria Junior International Jabaar Ibraheem is the problem solver the Kaizer Chiefs really need

South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs are expected to beef up their ranks with one or two new standout stars from Stellenbosch FC next term, with their focus on signing the pair of Junior Mendieta and Sibongiseni Mthethwa, according to widespread reports from Mzansi.

However, bringing over the duo to the mighty Amakhosi as a solution to the Chiefs’ myriad of problems, for which defensive midfield is a more pressing issue, might not be the right decision according to The South African.

Siseko Gwegwe reports for the South Africa based new outlet that hours of watching Stellenbosch games for two seasons, clearly shows that the most effective midfielder in their fold is arguably the 20-year-old Nigerian Ibraheem Jabaar.

The top South African football pundit considers the Nigerian junior international a resolute defensive midfielder in the clone of Blom (Njabulo), with the predominant agility to foray into the foe’s box.

“Watching Jabaar often leaves you unsure of whether he is a defensive midfielder or central midfielder, such is his industry in the engine room,” Gwegwe writes.

“In Jabaar, Chiefs would be signing two midfielders in one, and at 20, the all-action midfielder has a high resale value for a big transfer to Europe.”

Super Falcons beat Haiti 2-1

keeps winning mentality going before women’s world cup

Watch highlights of Nigeria Women’s team defeat of Haiti of Women’s team

By Rasheed Adewuyi

Two goals, one in each half, steered nine-time African champions Nigeria past Haiti’s senior women national team in an international friendly in Antalya, Turkey on Friday.

Returnee markswoman Asisat Oshoala had already seen her simple tap-in disallowed in the 22nd minute, and fellow Spain-based forward Rasheedat Ajibade saw her shot miss by the whiskers, before Esther Okoronkwo caught the Haitian defense completely off-guard with a free-kick from the right that slipped past the goalkeeper and strolled into the net in 40th minute.

Haiti, who are also heading to the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand this summer, came back from the dressing room more determined to take the fight to the Super Falcons, but goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, former U20 captain Tosin Demehin, and captain Onome Ebi warded off their incursions.

Two minutes before the hour-mark, Oshoala jabbed in from close range to make it two for the Falcons, in the process registering her first goal for the team since scoring in a Turkish Women’s Tournament defeat of Equatorial Guinea two years ago.

A defensive mix-up accounted for the Haitians pulling one back in the 75th minute, but there was no stopping the Super Falcons who have now won their last two matches, adding to the win against fellow World Cup-bound Costa Rica in Mexico in February.

Next up for the African heavyweights is a clash with World Cup co-hosts New Zealand. which also holds in Antalya on Tuesday evening.

Adesanya responds to steroid use allegation

Nigerian UFC 287 title challenger accused of past steroid use

Photos: Israel Adesanya through the years | MMA Junkie

Pressured UFC 287 title challenger Israel Adesanya yesterday took to his Twitter Loop stating “no loop to jump here,” in response to allegation of past steroid use. But is that the case?

Adesanya is under intense pressure as he returns to the Octagon this weekend at UFC 287 to regain his UFC middleweight title from Alex Pereira which he lost to ‘Poatan’ last November.

The Nigerian-born mixed martial artist must cope with the additional realization that he remains 0-3 against Pereira in combat jousts-his only consolation-the definite assurance that he gave stiff resistance to the victor on each occasion.

Another pressure Adesanya must overcome is the raging allegations of likely past steroid abuse, PEDs to be exact.

His full statement on Twitter read: “USADA, monitor us from the moment we get off the scale till we hit the arena on Saturday. Have people take shifts if they have to…no loopholes to jump here.”

This ought not be the type of consideration that should preoccupy a fighter’s mind before confronting formidable foes like Pereira inside the Octagon.

‘Ndidi and Iheanacho will be relegated’

Former Aston Villa star, Gabriel Agbonlahor predicts Leicester City’s impending doom this summer

Brendan Rodgers praises forward Kelechi Iheanacho’s natural insticts getty images

By Rasheed Adewuyi

Former Aston Villa FC forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has predicted that Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho’s Leicester City FC would be relegated at the end of the season.

Speaking on Talk Sports, a British Radio talk show, Agbonlahor said it would be very difficult for the Foxes to win all their remaining matches because of their current form.

The Foxes were beaten by Aston Villa on Tuesday, having picked up just one point from the last twenty one matches. This poor run was the reason Brendan Rodgers was sacked last weekend after four years in charge.

Leicester city will play against Bournemouth in one of the Premier League matches slated for this weekend. A win will take them out of the relegation zone but Gabriel Agbonlahor believes it would be difficult for Leicester City to escape relegation because of the tough fixtures ahead.

“It is very obvious that the Foxes are very poor this season. They have not been impressive since the season commenced. They have to work extremely hard if they want to keep their Premier League status” he said.

After the game against Bournemouth this weekend, Leicester will travel to the Etihad Stadium to play against the defending champions, Manchester city on April 15, Wolves (home) on April 22, Leeds (away) April 28, Everton (away) May 1 , Fulham (away) May 8, Liverpool, (home) May 19 , Newcastle Utd (away), and West Ham Utd (home).

It should be recalled that Leicester City were relegated from the Premiership in 2003/ 2004 season with thirty–eight points along with Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Foxes are currently on 19th position with twenty -five points from twenty – nine matches.

Saudi Arabia want Mourinho for £100MILLION

Could become the highest paid manager ever

The Italian press also reported that Mourinho could follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Al-Nassr

Mourinho wants to sort out his future during the current season, not at the end of Roma’s ongoing campaign, and is apparently keen to meet with the clubs owners the Friedkins.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham manager could show himself to the exit door if his demands aren’t met by the club.

That could pave the way for Mourinho to manage Saudi Arabia, who beat Argentina during the World Cup in Qatar last year.

It comes after Mourinho stepped in following racist chants from his team’s fans towards Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic during a 3-0 victory.

Stankovic was frustrated at Sampdoria being reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Jeison Murillo when the sides were level at 0-0.

Some Roma fans responded by referencing Stankovic’s Serbian heritage.

However, Mourinho was quick to tell the Roma ultras to stop the chants as he protected Stankovic, who played under him at Inter Milan.

Jose Mourinho could become the highest paid manager ever after he was reportedly offered a two-year deal worth more than £100million to coach Saudi Arabia, writes Jonathan Rose For Mailonline.

The Portuguese, 60, joined Roma in 2021 and his current contract runs with the Serie A giants until 2024.

However, there have been disputes over transfers and frustrations at Roma’s performances this season.

With his future still up in the air at the Italian club, Mourinho has now been directly approached by ‘top management’ to head the Saudi Arabia national team.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the deal includes €60million each year and two options for Mourinho.

Mourinho, 60, has been approached by 'top management', according to Corriere dello Sport

He would be able to tear up the contract at the end of the first season or extend it until 2026 – the year of the North American World Cup.

The Italian press also reported that Al-Ahli, currently leading the second division championship, want Mourinho.

Roma have struggled to cement their place in the league’s Champions League places and currently sit fifth in the league.

Mourinho has enjoyed a strong relationship with the club’s supporters but appears unable to convince Roma’s owners that he is deserving of a new deal with no new offer currently on the table, according to Get Football Italy.

He has reportedly demanded at least three new players, a striker, midfielder, and defender, be brought in during the summer transfer window if he is to stay in charge.

Victor Osimhen begins £133m Man-United talks

Odion Ighalo gets star role in history making transfer of compatriot

Former Manchester United back-up forward Odion Ighalo could play a pivotal role in the deal to transfer Napoli’s £133m star Victor Osimhen from Italy’s Serie A to the English Premier League (EPL).

By Ed Emeanua

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has revealed to GIVEMESPORT that Manchester United’s speculated chase of the Napoli forward could be cranked up by the introduction of former player Odion Ighalo in the pursuit.

Ighalo was on loan at Manchester United for a season and Jacobs insists that talks between the striker and his Nigeria teammate Osimhen, have already taken place and was also highly fruitful.

Jacobs said: “Osimhen has spoken to Odion Ighalo, who was at Manchester United in the past, and was very impressed by what he heard.

“Osimhen just felt like he’d be too far down in the pecking order and needed game time if he’d joined then.

“So the fact that there are pre-existing links between Manchester United and Osimhen, and now the club are flying under Erik ten Hag, will give Manchester United a lot of hope.”

Osimhen is having an outstanding season for Serie A table toppers Napoli and is the content of far reaching interest bridging the continent, with United cited to be in high demand for his agreement.

Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express has disclosed to GIVEMESPORT that Osimhen’s transfer to Manchester United is a rational proposition because the Napoli star forward brings something a “little bit different to the majority of other strikers”.

Even so, United would have to pay big for the transfer of the prolific striker from Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to Old Trafford, as news out of Italy indicate a move is anticipated to exceed the £100 million ceiling.

Italian outlet Il Mattino places the asking price for Osimhen at close to £133 million, for him to move out of Napoli this summer.
