Paul Onuachu hours away from move

Schalke 04 appears to have won the race for the signature of the gangling Nigerian forward

5 Nigerians likely to move in this summer transfer window - AfrosportNow

By Ed Emeanua

Paul Onuachu is now hours away from his  loan move to Schalke 04 who plays in Germany’s Bundesliga 2 or the second tier in German football league.

Schalke are about to ‘win the race’ for the Southampton striker and will sign him on loan with an option to buy. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the last details of the move ‘will be settled’ in the coming hours.

Onuachu has been coveted by a number of European clubs eager for his services, such as fellow German sides Borussia Monchengladbach and Stuttgart, aside others in Turkey who also are allured by his talent.

The giant Nigerian forward has been deeply associated with a summer transfer from Southampton after a disappointing spell at Saint Mary’s stadium since moving from Genk in January.

Borussia Monchengladbach appeared to be the front-runner to sign the striker, but Tavolieri claims that it is actually Schalke who has prevailed in the race to land the Nigeria international.

Onuachu had arrived from Belgium in the hope of strengthening Southampton’s attack with the hope of scoring enough goals to maintain the club’s Premier League spot, but  the striker could not achieve those expectations as neither Nathan Jones or Ruben Selles saw it fit to play him in the second half of the term.

Shod of adequate playing minutes, the gangling Nigerian forward failed to score a goal in 11 outings totaling 404 minutes of football for Southampton and a plethora of reports have been adamant that the former Gent Marksman would be part of the anticipated departures from St Mary’s Stadium this summer following their demotion to division the Championship.

Saints lured Onuachu out of Belgian side Genk in the winter transfer window and he landed at St Mary’s Stadium with a prolific goal scoring reputation from Belgium.

Many had doubted that Onuachu would elect to play in Germany’s second tier league after rejecting Championship football with Southampton, but Tavolieri reports that Schalke 04 are ‘set to’ secure Onuachu’s signature and sign him on loan from Southampton for the season with the choice to make it permanent.

Besiktas offers Iheanacho loan lifeline

Leicester City may prefer outright sale offer for striker to fund new recruits for premiership promotion push

Kelechi Iheanacho believes Leicester know how to 'hurt' Liverpool

Ed Emeanua

Besiktas of Turkey have reportedly offered Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho a loan transfer lifeline, but his club must first make a decide on the future of the Nigeria international at the club.

The Turkish Star reports that the player of the season at the King Power Stadium is wanted by the Istanbul outfit, who are preparing  a €2m loan offer for the forward.

However, it is highly improbable that Leicester City will take the bait as they will prefer to sell the striker for a higher fee if Iheanacho is to depart.

The Nigerian has just a year left on his contract at Leicester, marooning the him in an untenable spot where he could be sold off to help jack up the transfer spreadsheet.

City are unlikely to accept a loan offer for Iheanacho at this late stage as they may not want to lose him for free next summer. The Club has the options to either sell or sign a new contract with the Nigerian, with the last-mentioned option doubtful as the club begins life in the Championship and is forced to slash wages.

The Star reports that  Besiktas are in desperate need of a new striker this summer to replace their injured star forward Cenk Tosun ahead of their season which resumes ahead of the regular Turkish season.

The Turkish giants ended in third place in the Super Lig last term and will represent the nation in the Europa Conference League, but, kickstarts their campaign on July 29 in the second round of qualifying play.

According to Leicestershire Live, City may desire to allow Iheanacho to leave as they have two other forwards in their arsenal. Enzo Maresca, their new manager, has since affirmed Jamie Vardy’s willingness to stay, while Patson Daka’s contract is long-term.

Leicester fans named Iheanacho player of the season last term, regardless that he only made 13 starts in all competitions. The 26-year-old scored eight goals the entire term.

Iheanacho has been at the King Power Stadium for six terms since his £25m transfer from Manchester City in 2017, making 206 appearances and scoring 55 goals.

Twenty-four of Iheanacho’s goals were notched in the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europe, making the Nigeria forward Leicester City’s leading cup goalscorer in the club’s history by miles, nine goals more that the immediate runner-up Mike Stringfellow.

Osimhen rules out France, Germany return

Napoli star won’t go back to play in a league twice

Osimhen not for sale - Napoli President, De Laurentiis - Daily Post NigeriaNapoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis’ asking price is one of the stumbling blocks to Victor Osimhen’s summer move away from the club

By Ed Emeanua

If he could help it, Victor Osimhen won’t be caught in the habit of going back to play in a league after he’s moved on from it.

So far, the Napoli star forward has had prior playing stints in Germany, Belgium, France, and is currently domiciled in Italy, meaning his new favored destination, should he decide to leave Napoli this summer, rules out all interests from those past climes.

French side Paris Saint Germaine and Germany’s Bayern Munich have all signified interest to sign the Nigeria forward this summer, but, according to the Evening Standard, former Italy and Napoli star midfielder Salvatore Bagni is quoted as saying that Osimhen only sees Manchester United and Real Madrid as his desired likely new stops, canceling out the hope of a summer transfer to Chelsea and Liverpool because playing for them now would deny the Napoli superstar champions League football opportunity next season.

“Victor Osimhen won’t return to France because he already played there. The same thing with Germany,” said former Italy midfielder Bagni.

“He doesn’t go to Liverpool or Chelsea because they do not play the Champions League.

“Of all the teams associated with him, for me, he would only go to Manchester United and Real Madrid. He’s not interested in the other teams.”

Osimhen is among the major transfer focus for mainstream European clubs after a remarkable season that saw him emerge the Serie A’s Capocannoniere, stumping up 26 goals in 32 matches to help Napoli to its first Scudetto win in 33 years, and also marshaling the Partenopei to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Chelsea have shortlisted the 24-year-old as a likely choice and are willing to match any costs to sign the Napoli forward, having made the signing of a gentry top forward a prime concern for new boss Mauricio Pochettino this summer as they make plans for life without Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after comfortless spells at Chelsea, just as Liverpool are also reported to be readying to make an approach.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich are contemplating coming up with an offer of over €100 million as they equally pursue to land a young player up front.

In the mean time, Osimhen is valued at €150 million by Napoli, whose president Aurelio De Laurentiis is regarded as one of the most formidable conciliators in football transfers and is unlikely to be enticed into further talks over the set fee for the transfer of Osimhen. The Nigerian is under contract with Napoli until June 2025.

But, the price tag might not be the only obstacle confronting teams like Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea in their interest for one of the hottest attacking prospects in global football, with the player now focused on a possible summer transfer to just two clubs in Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Manchester United has made the signing of a striker their top consideration this summer following their overt reliance on Marcus Rashford last term on the heel of the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo from the Club, coupled with the failure of loan signing Wout Weghorst to impress in front of goal.

Osimhen has been constantly identified with a summer transfer to Manchester United, and the forward is seen as the right fit for the number nine role in manager Erik ten Hag’s football philosophy.

Real Madrid are also in the same boat with Manchester United in the hunt of a forward, as they have been forced to play without a recognized top-nine since replacing Karim Benzema with temporary solution Joselu. Osimhen is not only a text-book goal scorer; he’s physically strong, an aerial threat, has good link-up play and possesses a quick burst of speed.

But the stumbling block to his dream move remains if any of his two favored clubs can meet De Laurentiis’ asking price this summer.

Napoli’s president is also believed to be ready to hold on to the Nigeria international for one more year should a suitor fail to meet Napoli’s transfer valuation for Osimhen, having himself suggested publicly recently that Napoli had reached a decision to extend their star forward’s stay in Naples.

The Judgment Day’s reign of terror just became even more dangerous as Damian Priest scaled the ladder to become Señor Money in the Bank, guaranteeing himself a future championship match whenever he chooses.

The action was chaotic as every Superstar battled for themselves, but not before they teamed up to teach Logan Paul a quick lesson in respect. With ladders and tables strategically placed throughout the ring and ringside area, the carnage was taken to a whole new level when Ricochet hit a Spanish Fly on Logan Paul from off the top rope through a pair of tables, which was just moments after he dove through a ladder and the ropes at the same time to take out the competition at ringside.

The Money in the Bank briefcase belongs to Damage CTRL as IYO SKY became the Superstar to climb the ladder and secure the life-changing contract that she can use on a champion of her choosing.

The team of WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus and Zoey Stark dominated the field early, but the unpredictability of the match allowed the other Superstars to quell that threat and continue battling for the contract.

The action quickly devolved into a free-for-all that saw Becky Lynch hit Trish Stratus with a Man-Handle Slam onto a ladder and Zelina Vega connect for a hellacious Code Red on Stark onto a ladder.

After Bayley cost SKY a chance at the contract, The Genius of The Sky returned the favor by handcuffing Bayley and Lynch to each other through the rungs, allowing herself to climb the ladder unimpeded to become Ms. Money in the Bank.

Rollins was clearly not 100 percent as he was still favoring his injured midsection suffered at the hands of Bálor over the past few weeks.

As the champion gutted through the pain, Señor Money in the Bank Damian Priest appeared at ringside, and his presence caused a distraction for his teammate.

Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa vs. The Usos:

https://youtu.be/ym_XCIFuTcs

Jimmy Uso and Sikoa started off the match, with Sikoa using his strength to dominate Jimmy in the first few collar and elbow ties. Sikoa got the best of some strike exchanges before Jimmy distracted the referee, allowing Jey Uso to get a cheap shot in and help turn the tide. Reigns then demanded a tag rather than let Sikoa square off with Jey. Sikoa looked frustrated but did tag in Reigns. Reigns dominated Jey briefly but Jimmy got the tag, forcing Reigns to bail from the ring before The Usos could land a double superkick. A pep talk from Paul Heyman fired up Reigns, leading to him and Sikoa taking over on Jey for a stretch. Any bit of Uso momentum was repeatedly cut off by Reigns and Sikoa, though Reigns was constantly partially distracted by the crowd’s hostile chants.

WWE Photo

Jey finally took a hot tag and blitzed Sikoa with offense. Reigns was eventually able to cut Jey off with a pair of Superman punches before The Usos hit him with a double spear that forced Sikoa to make a desperate break-up of the pin. Things broke down into a brawl featuring all four men until Reigns nearly won with a Superman punch of Jimmy. Jimmy came right back with a superkick counter to a Reigns spear but a splash attempt after was countered by Reigns into a guillotine choke. In the ensuing chaos, the referee was knocked out of the ring, leaving him down and out as Jey pinned Reigns after a 1D.  Sikoa got back into the match after the referee was down. Reigns and Sikoa hit stereo Rock Bottoms, followed by Samoan Spikes and spears. Sikoa stacked the Usos on top of each other and Reigns laid on top for the pin, only for both Usos to kick out.

Sikoa tried to put Jimmy through the announce table but Jimmy moved out of the way. In the ring, Jey and Reigns traded big moves until a Reigns spear for a two-count, which Jey kicked out of while also delivering a low blow. The Usos then delivered superkicks to Reigns before Jey hit a splash from the top rope to score the pin. That pinfall marked the first time Reigns had been pinned since December 2019. Bloodline matches are what they are with a lot of over-the-top dramatics and in-ring chatter but they also almost always deliver the goods when it comes to the actual wrestling. This was another case of exactly that and a red-hot London crowd certainly helped elevate the match and build to a huge moment. Result: The Usos def. Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa via pinfall

Retired FIFA referee spills the beans regarding the pecuniary value of Nigerian referees

Nigeria has some of the best referees in the world" - Alex Mana - Daily Post NigeriaMY BIGGEST REGRETS AS REFEREE -ALEX MANA

By Rasheed Adewuyi

Retired FIFA badged referee, Dr. Alex Mana has revealed that for every rigorous run around in the fast paced Nigerian football season, all that the Nigerian referee make for this hectic exertion of over 90 minutes is a wage of two hundred thirty-six dollars and ninety-six cents ($231.96).
Dr. Alex Mana made this shocking revelation while trying to debunk what he termed a “rumor milling around that Nigerian referees are not being paid their fair share of indemnities” in carrying out their highly tasking trade.
Mana in a chat with Sports Joust disclosed that Nigerian referees receive a sum of one hundred and seventy five thousand naira (₦175,000) per match during the recently concluded league season, adding that referees in every part of the world are supposed to be well remunerated without any bias.
“We pay referees based on the distance or how far they go (they travel). Feeding and accommodation are not included in the package.  Nigeria has always been paying referees accordingly even when I was in service,” he said.
“This development has helped the Interim League Management Committee (ILMC) achieve positive results in terms of officiating last season because all the matches were well handled by the referees ” he added.
Dr. Alex Mana also stressed that referees allowances were paid into their various accounts without any interference from members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)  and the ILMC officials.
He assured soccer fans that referees are going to put up more brilliant performances next season because the ILMC is planning to increase referees indemnity.
It should be recalled that Soccer fans in recent past have criticized Nigerian referees for poor officiating, bribery and favoritism because they’re not well paid.
Compared to referees in the United States of America’s Major League Soccer (MSL) for instance, a huge chasm exists between referee remuneration in the MSL and in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) for the same 90 minutes of work per game.
An MSL referee in Texas for example makes an average of nineteen dollars/hour ($19/hour) or one thousand, seven hundred and ten dollars/match ($1,710 per game).
This translates to, one million, two hundred and ninety thousand, one hundred and nine naira, fifty kobo (₦1, 290, 109.50) for the same 90 minutes of exertion in a game.
In the English Premier League (EPL) on the other hand, it is reported that referees make between £38,500 ($46,600) and £42,000 ($50,820), based on experience, which can rack up their total income as high as £70,000 ($84,700).

NFF-TINGO Federation Cup 2023: Bendel Insurance returns to Nigerian football prominence after long wait for glory

Bendel Insurance Beats Rangers International, Wins Federation Cup – Voice of Nigeria

Insurance, Queens are champions

By Rasheed Adewuyi

Imade Osarenkhoe’s strike from six yards on the dot of half time, after handball in the box by Rangers’ defender Chinemerem Ugwueze, handed Bendel Insurance this year’s NFF-TINGO Federation Cup title and a ticket to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The ‘Flying Antelopes’ threw in all they could muster in an interesting encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Wednesday, but the ‘Benin Arsenal’ were determined to hew something out of a see-saw season in which they remained unbeaten in the Nigeria Premier Football League regular season only to end up empty-handed in the Playoff Championship.

Insurance had come close in the 16th minute when Deputy Echeta hit the ball hard and goalkeeper Detan Ogundare spilled the shot, only for the rebound to be diverted.

A minute into the restart, Rangers’ Shedrack Asiegbu let fly from the left side, but the effort went over the bar. In the 55th minute, Insurance goalkeeper Amos Obasogie spilled a shot from Rangers’ Godwin Obaje but there was no follow-up, and in the 70th minute, Osarenkhoe’s intelligent chip from a free-kick was tipped over the sticks by Ogundare.

In the women’s final played earlier in the afternoon, Cup holders Bayelsa Queens retained the trophy with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat of Rivers Angels after regulation time ended 0-0.

Former junior international goalkeeper Onyinye Okeke saved from Angels’ substitute Sofia Agyaakwa before Zainab Olapade scored to give joy to the Bayelsa fans.

Women’s champions Bayelsa Queens pocketed the sum of 10 million naira (Ten Million Naira Only) while Rivers Angels were five million naira (N5 Million Naira Only) richer.

Men’s winners Bendel Insurance went home with the sum of 15 million naira (Fifteen Million Naira Only) while Rangers International got the sum of Seven Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only.

Rivers Angels’ forward Adaobi Okah won the top scorer award in the women’s category with her five goals, while Lobi Stars’ Joseph Atule and Kwara United’s Kamal Samad tied for the same award in the men’s category with four goals each.

African U18 and U20 Championships: Ogazi and Okwose storm to Championship Records on Day 2 - Pulse Sports Nigeria

By Rasheed Adewuyi

No fewer than 10 reigning Africa U-18 and U-20 champions will be in action when the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Golden League train makes its final stop at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state on Saturday.
The athletes will be led by Samuel Uchenna Ogazi who successfully completed a 200m and 400m double at the Championships with a 46.01 Championships record as the icing on his cake and National Sports Festival double sprint silver medalist, Faith Okwose who also successfully ran a sprint double at the Ndola, Zambia event.
Ogazi leads the men’s 400m line up with 20 points, four ahead of second placed Chidera Johnson, albeit the final will be a winner takes all affair.
The 17-year-old has remained unbeaten in the local athletics circuit so far this season and will want to prove his performances so far have not been by a fluke.
Ogazi will have to contend with the senior duo of Sikiru Adeyemi who holds a personal best of 45.93 and is seven years older and Samson Nathaniel, 25, the two time Nigeria 400m champion.
In the women’s 100m, Okwose, 17, who set two championships records on her way to winning the 100m and 200m titles at the African U-18 championships will go head to head with Praise OFOKU, the 20 year old who ran in the final of the World U20 championships in Nairobi, Kenya in 2021.
In the men’s 100m, it may be a battle between 18 year olds as Kanyinsola Ajayi, the reigning African U20 champion will be up against Sunday Akitan, who incidentally holds a 5-1 head to head record against the African champion.
Reigning National Sports Festival 100m champion, Fakorede Adekalu who will be 20 on June 28 will be seeking to prove he still has the big ocassion temperament that fetched him the blue ribband gold in Asaba last December.
Charles Edward Godfred, the reigning African U20 long jump champion and Grace Oshiokpu, the U20 triple champion champion will also be looking to prove they have come of age.
Patience Okon George, one of the most decorated athletes that will be in Uyo will be aiming to assert her superiority as the best in the women’s 400m event.
The 31 year old has been unbeaten so far this year and will seek to extend that on her home track.
Meanwhile, the AFN has appealed to all state association chairmen and secretaries as well as Military/Para Military and Clubs have been urged to release any of their athletes for the competition which may serve as their final preparation for the World Athletics Championships in Benin City, capital of Edo state next month

Adesanya wants Du Plessis so bad

0

He’s Ripped into fans interrupting his Public Gym workouts

Israel Adesanya Gets Serious About Dricus Du Plessis: ‘I Will Show Him Who The F*** I Am’

Israel Adesanya is so focused on his likely September 10 date at UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia against the winner of the UFC 290 headliner between Robert Whittaker and Dricus du Plessis, that he is ready to rip into fans interrupting his public gym workouts.

Former champion Whittaker main events UFC 290 against Du Plessis on July 8th at the T-Mobile Arena stadium in Las Vegas but the current UFC middleweight title holder Adesanya, is leaving no stone unturned as he’s already back in the gym sweating it out in readiness for the winner of that fight.

The Last Stylebender is irked by fans’ interruption while he’s neck deep into his public gym workouts. Posting on his social media account, the New Zealand resident discussed the issue hoping to straighten out the issue with fans.

“People, stop taking sneak photos of me in the gym. Imagine if I started to doing it, taking sneak photos of people, I’ll be a creep. So when you start to take sneak photos…at the gym, you’re a f***ing creep too. Whether you are a man, woman, or child. I don’t give a f**k, you’re a f***ing creep,” Adesanya fumed.

“Quick [nod], fist bump, quick smile, quick hello [would be fine already],” he added. “Don’t hold me hostage with your conversation. He’s got a timer on his phone where I’m supposed to rest. And when you hold me hostage, I’m not resting. So, don’t do that…. To the ladies I scolded, I went up to them and said, ‘Look, how would you feel if I would be secretly filming you in the gym?’ And immediately, it was just like [snaps]. And they apologized. So, shoutout to them, for taking that in good faith.”

Whittaker versus Du Plessis inside the Octagon of Las Vegas is just an elimination contest for the right to face the champion next but The Stylebender’s camp wish is for their fighter to clash with the South African in Sydney come September.

Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman choses Du Plessis to take on his fighter because Whittaker has been more than very ordinary since losing to Adesanya in their rematch last year. Besides there’s been a lot of verbal brass talks between The Stylebender and the South African.

However, as Adesanya is domiciled in New Zealand and Whittaker is a native of Australia, Adesanya versus Whittaker 3 is potentially a must-see-fight for the contingent of Anzac fight fans.
