Napoli rejects PSG’s €100M Osimhen offer

Ligue One King is first to make a concrete offer for the Serie A top striker after lengthy transfer speculations involving various clubs

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) now becomes the first club to make concrete offer to Napoli for the club’s rave-of-the-moment forward Victor Osimhen, but Les Parisiens €100 million offer has been turned down by the Serie A champions.

French Football Weekly reports that President Nasser Al-Khelaifi of PSG gave a check of €100 million to Napoli owner, Aurelio de Laurentiis, but Ciucciarelli boss refused to touch the check having deemed the offer as too low for him to even elicit his consideration.

Considered one of the shrewdest negotiators inn the transfer business, De Laurentiis also cautioned the Qatari owner of PSG not to send him any monetary offer below €180 million if he is serious to recruit Osimhen.

According to the report, this was happening as the Partenopei was deep into negotiation with Roberto Calenda, Osimhen’s agent, regarding a contract extension, with the former Lille striker’s deal with Napoli set to terminate in 2025.

PSG’S leader has no intention of retaining the services of Kylian Mbappé if the Cameroon-born striker refuses to sign a deal extension with Les Parisiens, leaving Les Rouge-et-Bleu no choice than to look for his replacement.
However, It’s very certain that Al-Khelaifi does not feel that Kylian Mbappé’s replacement in his club should be Harry Kane.
According to various reports, Liverpool is preparing a deal worth over €200M for the France forward and Real Madrid remains the frontrunner to sign PSG’s 41 goals scorer in all competitions in the just concluded season.
This has beclouded Mbappé’s situation in PSG, but PSG does not intend to be caught off guard should its best striker decide to leave this Summer.

No escape for hurt Wilfred Ndidi

Forced to return for Leicester’s harsh training drills

AFCON 2023: Ndidi may miss Leone Stars clash - Punch Newspapers

By Ed Emeanua

Opinion

Once the toast of Manchester United, Nigeria International midfielder Wilfred Ndidi returned to Leicester City’s harsh training drills on Monday, June 3, to start preparations for English championship level football, and to life as a beast of entertainment.

Ndidi showed up alongside Patson Daka, Kelechi Iheanacho, Danny Ward and Victor Kristiansen to reunite with the Foxes team on their Seagrave training grounds. Daka and Iheanacho rejoined following goal scoring exploits for Zambia and Nigeria in tandem, on their international breaks, while Kristiansen reemerged after completing his full international appearance in the June internationals for Denmark.

Ndidi was at one point in his highly promising career courted by a slew of European clubs most notably, Manchester United, especially for his box-to-box brand of midfield prowess, but the player seemed very contented with life at King Power Stadium.

Now, the 26-year-old Nath Boys Academy product has recently endured lengthy injury spells, the aftermath of largely unconventional approaches which saw successive Leicester coaches compelling the Nigerian star to play almost all available games (except when injured), for the Foxes since moving to Leicester City in the English premier league from Belgium’s Genk on December 3, 2016.

Even after going under the knife several times and still recuperating, the Nigerian was always forced back in haste, and ushered back into action while not fully recovered from those procedures, only to be reinjured.

As push became shove, it was only obvious that something had to give. Between man and the element of time, it is guaranteed that with time, Ndidi’s now fast aging body would eventually pack up. And pack up he did.

The overuse of the player began to rear up its consequence two seasons ago as the wear and tear continued to force the midfielder onto the injury list, only to be rushed back by Leicester coaches into action time and again without proper recovery.

Finally, as Leicester battled against relegation last season, the player suffered the most as the club chose its fight to preserve its vaunted premier league status over the player’s health.

This forced the star into a yoyo-like repeat-stop-reload rehash by club coaches who drove him relentlessly from the injured list back to action.

The plight of Ndidi in Leicester should serve as a lesson for future and up-coming stars, who must be aware of the ugliness of this brand of capitalism that on closer examination appears to disregard the health and wellness of footballers.

The Fédération internationale de football association (FIFA) is complicit for allowing the harsh treatment of players by the English football system which does not allow clubs and players enough break time during the regular season.

Aside that, the regular English football season is just too long, very tedious, and is spattered with just too many games to play, making each season highly tasking for players who are forced to engage in it as a means of their livelihood.

Several clubs in the English football system cannot afford the huge budget demanded for the type of large team structure that is required to cope with the tasking nature of English football.

Again, there is no laws that prevents those of them that can afford such a large team from not concentrating their reliance on certain highly talented stars at all the times regardless of their health condition, just to satisfy inordinate ambitions of coaches and club.

Nonetheless, to continue to employ players as mere beasts of entertainment in this modern age and right before our eyes is totally wrong and outrageous.

FIFA and every football stakeholder that have turned the other eye in the past and allowed such a sad practice to persist for this long, must now condemn it for what it is.

Sixteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva, playing at Wimbledon for the first time, earned the final spot in the fourth round of the grass court grand slam tournament on Sunday, reports AP News.

The Russian qualifier is the latest teen sensation in tennis – and she isn’t disappointing at the All England Club.

Andreeva is the youngest player since Coco Gauff in 2019 to reach the women’s fourth round. She reached the third round at this year’s French Open in her first major tournament.

Despite trailing 4-1 in the second set, Andreeva beat 22nd-seeded Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 7-5 on court three.

“I came back from 1-4, so of course I feel great,” Andreeva said on court before explaining how she keeps her cool.

“Today, honestly, even if I wanted to show some emotions, I honestly, I couldn’t because I was out of breath almost every point. I really couldn’t show any emotions.”

They came out after, though, when Andreeva sat in her chair and pulled her purple Wimbledon towel up over her face for a few seconds to regain her composure.

Andreeva will next face tour veteran Madison Keys for a spot in the quarter-finals.

The third-round victory came 21 minutes after Marketa Vondrousova became the first player to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals. Vondrousova defeated 32nd-seeded Marie Bouzkova 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula also reached the quarter-finals. The 29-year-old American beat Lesia Tsurenko 6-1, 6-3 and will next face Vondrousova.

This year is only the second time play is officially scheduled for the middle Sunday at Wimbledon. Four times in the past, in 1991, 1997, 2004 and 2016, organizers used the day to deal with a backlog of matches.

The last man to reach the fourth round was 21st-seeded Grigor Dimitrov. He beat Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that started on Saturday. He will next face sixth-seeded Holger Rune.

Driving ‘Red 5’ makes Button feel ‘lucky’

On the morning of the British Grand Prix a cruise in the legendary FW14B revs up racer’s enthusiasm

Jenson Button left emotional after "moment I'll remember forever" at British Grand Prix - Mirror Online

Jenson Button says he feels ‘so lucky’ on Sunday morning in Silverstone, after driving his brand’s acclaimed ‘Red 5′ that yielded the crown to Williams Racing and Nigel Mansell in 1992, hours to the flag-off of the British Grand Prix.

Button was given the trust to drive the William’s famed FW14B and afterwards expressed his emotions of being entrusted with the novel chance to feel the motor that had made a difference in the William Racing’s achievement and to truly acclaim Williams’ 800th Grand Prix commemoration that are taking place this weekend at Silverstone.

The 2009 F1 World Champion said: “It was unbelievable! It was pretty emotional to drive the car that really was the car from my childhood.

“I remember sitting on the sofa with my old man watching all the races and seeing Nigel clinch the title, and this was the car he won that championship for Williams in.

“Once you get on track, the sound of that engine is so beautiful. You never know what to expect driving a heritage car – this one is 31 years old – but it’s very quick!

“The high speed is sensational and far beyond what I expected and I only did two laps! What a pleasure. I feel so lucky to have been able to drive that car. It’s a moment I’ll remember forever.”

‘Red 5’ has added more excitement and nostalgia to Silverstone ahead of this afternoon’s British Grand Prix.

Nigeria refuses to host World Beach Games

Despite offer of assistance from ANOC

Super Exclusive

World champion Daniela Moroz sails to gold at ANOC World Beach GamesAll that is needed to host beach games is a sea of water and sand, something that Nigeria has in quantity

By Ed Emeanua

Nigeria declined the Association of National Olympic Committees’ (ANOC) invitation to replace Indonesia as host of the 2023 World Beach Games championship forcing the World Organization to cancel the event altogether.

This was moments before the ANOC announced the cancelation of this year’s Games scheduled to be held in Bali next month following the withdrawal of the Indonesian city as hosts.

With no time to find a replacement, the organizers of the World Beach Games had to cancel the Games outright.

Nigeria’s refusal to accept the right to host the event came as a huge shock to observers as the consensus was that the West-Africans has the structures and the means to easily stage the event successfully despite the short notice.

Lagos State is currently in the process of commissioning its newly built ultramodern beach sports plex, while Aqua Ibom, Rivers and Cross Rivers States represent other Beach sports havens capable of pooling together with Lagos to host the Games in Nigeria.

Moreover, Beach Sports does not particularly require lengthy construction of sporting sites to stage. The availability of mostly open, seas of sand, a natural endowment that is already known to be plentiful in Nigeria, is all that is needed to stage a successful beach Games.

Again, as a tourists attraction and haven, the above mentioned cities in Nigeria boasts of the availability of standard hotels, communication, and the comparative urban roads network needed to stage the events.

To top all that, the ANOC was willing to assist Nigeria financially to be a successful host following the disappointing manner of Indonesia’s withdrawal of its commitment to host the event.

Above all else, the Games was an opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its tourism and related industry and afford targeted businesses, hawkers, vendors, and other organizations in the tourism industry, to make quick gains and to prosper.

Indonesia’s sports minister Dito Ariotedjo on Wednesday indicated regret for the cancellation adding that the budgeting process to host the event was tedious, and that the sum of 446 billion rupiah ($29.71 million) had been approved for the event but was still being reviewed by his country’s finance ministry.

In Nigeria’s darkest alleys of financial wastage and mismanagement that is blighted by unchecked corruption and vice in high places, $29.71 million is just the type of fiscal resources that routinely vanishes overnight into the pockets of crooked politicians, government stalwarts, and their co-travelers.

Billions of dollars have been known to disappear in Nigeria at random, only to be followed up by lame inquisitions whose outcome have unfailingly been an announcement to the such that, though the money is truly missing, its looters remain and would continue to be unknown and elusive politicians, magician government workers or ghosts, and invisible criminals who cannot be located, found or arrested.

Should the rogues be so glaring, then the announcement that would accompany such a revelation would be that the missing money cannot be found; case closed.

Gombe and environs usher in inaugural AthIetics Championship for Primary Schools with unmasked enthusiasm

The much awaited Gombe Inter-Primary Schools AthIetics Championship got off to a glowing start inside the main bowl of Pantami Stadium with over 37 schools in attendance.
The Games commenced with the girls 100m heats which stretched to Seven (7), but the boys 100m heats was intentionally delayed to make way for the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony of the championship itself was mind blowing, and took a very interesting dimension as a total of 1,017 pupils took part in the March pass, while the Permanent Secretary of the Gombe State Ministry of sports, Mohammed Kolo Bajoga, took the salute.
There was enough excitement and entertainment as pupils and their joyful parents took to dancing to music of local ensembles.
Expectedly, other dignitaries that also graced the opening ceremony include Zainab Adamu, Sports Commission director, Abubakar Baba Abdullahi, Local Education Scribe, among others.
Pantami Stadium was so jampacked to such an extent that the covered stand could not contain the spectators.
Sunday’s (Day 2) Competition would be more exciting as Competitions would start in earnest with full participation in the following events namely, 50 meters Egg and sack races for Boys. 200m boys and girls semi-finals, 50m bottle race for girls, and the boys 400m bicycle race.
Five schools got shortlisted for being the best in the March pass and the eventual winner would be announced by the organizing Committee in due time.
The organizer of the Competition Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe expressed gratitude to parents for releasing their wards to participate in the 4-day AthIetics competitions, and assured all presents of his willingness to be part of the competition until Gombe State produces a world 100m champion like Tobi Amusan (12:12secs) and others.
With the commencement of the AthIetics competitions, the media training would begin as planned on Tuesday July 11th.

Help grow Gombe Athletics-Gara Gombe

GAA boss tasks State Government, philanthropists and the Private sector

Gara Gombe Faults Sports Minister's Planned Meeting With NFF Presidential Candidates - Best Choice SportsHon. Ahmed Shuaib Gara Gombe

By Rasheed Adewuyi

Following the kick-off of the much anticipated Inter-Primary Schools  Athletics Championship, the Gombe Athletics Association (GAA) chairman, Hon. Ahmed Shuaib Gara Gombe has called on Gombe State Government, philanthropists and the Private sector to help Track & Field grow.
Speaking to Journalists  after the first session break, Gara Gombe said that he has not relented in putting the round pegs in the round holes since he was given the mandate to pilot AthIetics in the state.
According him, sports is not a one man show. But it appears to be the exactly that way in Gombe, where it is now looking like sports is meant for an individual, insisting that he has funded the on going athletics project in Gombe 100%, adding that the government, private sector, sports lovers, and philanthropists should encourage him to continue by chipping in also.
He also said if nothing comes from the above named sectors, he would continue to support sports, insisting that AthIetics is in his blood.
Gara Gombe wondered why the private sector should standby aloof and continue to watch unconcerned as people who need education empowerment, good health, and sports facilitation, continue to cry for their help, while death and poverty ravage the youth and general populations.
Gombe was also unhappy with colleagues who were appointed the same day with him, blaming them for accepting challenges they are unwilling to help make happen by contributing resources that everyone know they possess.
“I have spent over N3.5m on the on going youth Championship without the contribution of a single kobo from anywhere or anyone. If the private sector should knock on our doors to help us, we would oblige them” he said.
He further appealed to the Youths of the state for more interest in Sports to achieve their lift time ambition.

Nottingham Forest starts Iheanacho move

The Tricky Trees Look to Reinforce its Strike Force

By Ed Emeanua

Nottingham Forest has set its target on Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho whom they consider a striker of interest as the Reds look to reinforce their strike force for 2023-2024 premier league battles.

Forest are eyeing a move for Leicester’s Iheanacho to City Ground, according to a report.

Iheanacho is among a whole slew of Leicester work-force eyeing the exit at King power stadium following the Foxes dropout from the Premier League and the forward is fast proving to be still in hot demand.

Forest are yet to place their brand on any player this transfer season bringing more focus on who walks through the gate of City Ground as the club’s first summer acquisition.

All has been very quiet so far as Forest continue to see out their first summer following their frenetic signing spree which saw them bring in 29 players in their first transfer season back in English top league.

Report claim that Manager Steve Cooper is working assiduously to fortify his attacking steel, which only scored 38 league goals last term.

The EPL Index claims that the beginning discussion are already in progress for a likely move for Iheanacho, and the teams appear to be accommodating to the recommendation.

Iheanacho’s move to Forest will bring to three the number of Super Eagles attackers at the Tricky Trees following the signings of Taiwo Awoniyi for Bundesliga side Union Berlin and the crossover of Emmanuel Dennis from championship team Watford.

Iheanacho has scored 55 times for the Foxes since arriving from Manchester City for £25million in 2017, but has been curtailed by a inadequate opportunities to play under former manager Brendan Rodgers and lately, current Leicester boss, Dean Smith.

Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte 2

AJ’s physique from 2015 fight compared to now

Anthony Joshua’s physique looks a lot different now compared to when he last fought Dillian Whyte, Ben Hunt reports for Givemesport.

Following the announcement of Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte 2, which takes place next month, GIVEMESPORT takes a look at the physical change in Anthony Joshua over the past eight years.

In a recent tweet from the two-time heavyweight champion, Joshua can be seen dead lifting weights in the gym, with the caption reading: “Ain’t nun 2 it, but to do it.”

An impressive feat, but what is striking is the British boxer’s physique change from his last clash with the Body Snatcher eight years ago.

Anthony Joshua’s physique change over the years

Joshua last faced Whyte in 2015, battling to a seventh-round knockout win over his long-term rival.

2015-11-03T000000Z_1441213597_MT1ACI14150747_RTRMADP_3_BOX

At the time of the fight, the Watford-born boxer weighed in at a relatively slender 17st 7lb, weighing in at two pounds lighter than his opponent.

However, in the five years since this clash, Joshua has evidently piled on the pounds.

Before his fight against Jermaine Franklin in April earlier this year, Joshua tipped the scales at a whopping 18st 2lb, his heaviest career weight, while his opponent weighed significantly less coming in at 16st 7lb.

The change in physique is clearly evident in pictures taken from the weigh-in before Joshua’s fight with Whyte in 2015.

In the images, AJ looks athletic and defined, even sporting an eight-pack. Whereas in the recent image posted to his Twitter page, Joshua looks to have gained plenty of muscle mass, ditching the toned physique for a bulkier one.

It has been speculated that Joshua is gaining the extra weight in order to inflict more damage on his opponents in the ring. However, the downside of being heavier is that it inevitably makes movement slower, ultimately making the boxer more likely to get hit.

Certain Twitter users were impressed with AJ’s bulkier physique, with one user saying: “200kg decent AJ,” and another saying: “This is power. Good job AJ.”

However, some Twitter users have taken the opportunity to bash the 33-year-old.

“Still bodybuilding instead of working on his head movement,” “Too much muscle mass slows you down fact, you need to loosen up lose some of the muscle mass that inhibits movement speeds,” and “Weight lifting and building a bodybuilder physique doesn’t help with ring mechanics,” were just a few of the negative comments aimed at the Olympic gold medalist.

AJ will be looking to put his new powerful physique into practice when he faces his long-time rival Whyte next month.

Per the BBC, promoter Eddie Hearn has said with regards to the fight: “I can’t quite believe this fight is happening and there was absolutely no stopping either man.

“The rivalry runs deep and there is something about these two where they will never back down from each other.

“It is an absolute must-win for both. Get ready for fireworks.”

Anthony Joshua will face Dillian Whyte at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, August 12, 2023, with the fight shown exclusively on DAZN.

Lukaku shuns move to Inter’s rival

Prefers Saudi Arabia move to Juventus

Lukaku coming back to Chelsea 'regardless of how well he plays' at Inter - We Ain't Got No History

By Ed Emeanua

Though eager for a separation from his image owners England’s Chelsea FC, Romelu Lukaku will prefer life in the fiery Saudi Arabian wilderness rather than sign for AC Milan, who are the main rivals of Internazionale Milan where he is currently on loan.

This comes as the Blues And so their demands are appearing to be lowering their estimation of the striker and are gradually approaching a price point at which a deal can be made.

Chelsea have rejected Inter Milan’s latest offer, and demanded €45m for the striker, who cost them £100m only two years ago, Ben Jacobs reports for the Guardian.

Chelsea have been looking for an outlet to offload Lukaku on permanent transfer for more than a year after it became obvious that there cannot be a common ground between player and owner after things fell apart between them at Stamford Bridge.

According to Chelsea News, the Blues are not eager for the striker to show up at their preseason training camp which is set to commence next week.

The forward also have hinted that he does not want anything thing to do with Chelsea football preferring instead to be allowed to remain at Inter or be sold to another Club.

However offloading Lukaku to a greener pasture has been a hard sell as clubs consider Chelsea’s asking price for the marksman too steep and the player to be overvalued based on fitness or current form.

But a couple of teams now seem to be showing enough keenness at Chelsea’s current asking price – Juventus and Al Hilal from the Saudi Pro League.

Jacobs reports that Lukaku is currently “seriously considering” a move to Saudi Arabia, having dismissed such offers earlier this summer, in all probability when he was of the presumption that Inter were going to be able to match his owner’s asking price.
