Newcastle fans urge Ashworth to re-sign Champions League winner as Roma move nears

Georginio Wijnaldum’s failed Paris Saint-Germain move looks set to come to an end this summer after the pair agreed to part ways.

The Netherlands international joined the French giants from Liverpool last summer but failed to hold down a regular spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s side throughout the season and now the Paris-based club are happy for him to leave.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma is closing in on the midfielder and will sign the 31-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy him on a permanent basis next summer reports GOAL.

The Serie A side could have the deal for the midfielder wrapped up this weekend but Newcastle fans want to see the player back at St. James’ Park next season.

Wijnaldum looks set to join Roma

The 31-year-old was a popular figure during his one season at Newcastle, despite it ending in relegation to the Championship, and his performances that season got him a move to Liverpool; a club where the midfielder had great success under Jurgen Klopp, winning the Premier League and Champions League.

NewcastleWorld asked Toon fans if they would take Wijnaldum back and the response was unanimous.

“Yes in a heartbeat,” said @steve935566c. I’d take him on loan, great player,” @StefanCatton replied. “Just isn’t getting a look in at PSG, he’d be outstanding once again for us in our midfield.”

@BurstOfTheStar believes Wijnaldum would “thrive under Howe’s management”.

@mbizzle39 added: “I absolutely would – supremely talented and great mentality. One of the best players we’ve ever had.

“But he clearly has no interest in returning and we’re no longer a club that needs to try and sign players who don’t have their hearts set on playing for the club.”
Although it is nice to see Wijnaldum get some love from his former fans, it looks like these supporters will be disappointed, as Roma looks like the next destination to the former Newcastle man.
Outstanding €30m star rejects West Ham move for two reasons

Hoffenheim defender David Raum is set to sign for RB Leipzig snubbing interest from West Ham United.

According to Sky Germany, Raum attracted a wealth of elite interest this summer but has decided to accept a move to the Red Bull Arena as it will provide a chance to earn regular minutes and cement his place in Hansi Flick’s plans for Germany at the World Cup. The left-back also wants to play in the Champions League next season and these are said to be the reasons why he rejected other clubs such as West Ham.

Raum is in advanced negotiations with Leipzig over a move, which is on the verge of completion for a fee of around €30-35m plus add-ons states Sky Germany

Raum is a very talented left-back and is coming off the back of a great season, in which the German proved 13 assists and three goals in 32 Bundesliga games for Hoffenheim.

This will be a blow for David Moyes but the West Ham boss is returning to the Bundesliga to sign another left-back. Yesterday, it was reported that the Hammers have submitted a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic who is believed to be worth €20m by the German club, reported The Guardian.

The London club are currently discussing personal terms with the Frankfurt star and talks are progressing well reports Fabrizio Romano, as Moyes moves on from missing out on Raum.

Chelsea star’s future relies on Kounde’s destination

Barcelona is in the advanced stages of signing Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta but the transfer is on standby due to the Catalan side’s pursuit of Jules Kounde.

According to Todofichajes once Chelsea signs the Sevilla defender they will agree to release Azpilicueta to the Spanish giants but with Barca not out of the race for the Frenchman, what the future holds for the Chelsea captain now is unknown.

The Spaniard has been linked with Barcelona for some time now and 32-year-old’s plan has always been to play for Xavi’s side during the coming season but his future solely depends on the future of Kounde, as the Blues might not sell their captain to the Catalan side if they hijack another signing.

Azpilicueta will be a cheap signing for Barcelona and would provide cover at both centre-back and right-back. According to Todofichajes, the 32-year-old will earn around €5m a year in Spain and will sign a two-year contract with an option of a third.

The defender’s team already considers him a Barcelona player and Todofichajes states that it could be official in the next few days. However, the developments in the Kounde race overnight may have an influence on this timeline.

David De Gea opens up on Man United’s future

Manchester United number one, David de Gea, has opened up about his future with the Red Devils during an interview before their 2-2 pre-season draw to Aston Villa earlier on Saturday.
De Gea, 31, is preparing for his 12th season at Old Trafford under new boss Erik ten Hag and during a recent interview, the goalkeeper has admitted that he would like to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

“Yeah, if it’s possible,” the Spain international told reporters, as quoted by The Guardian.

“If they let me stay I will stay, for sure I’m really comfortable, and happy and hopefully before I leave we can win something more.”

However, as of yet, no talks have taken place to extend his current contract, which expires in June next year.

“I didn’t talk with anyone yet [about a renewal] but of course, because I want to be here for more years,” the 31-year-old added.

De Gea’s current contract consists of a basic wage worth around £ 350,00 per week (Sportrac), making him the club’s highest earner behind footballing legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
United number two Dean Henderson had attempted to knock the Spaniard off the top spot, but after a reemergence of form, De Gea’s place in between the Old Trafford remains assured.

Henderson has since joined newly promoted Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal.

Last season the 20-time-league winners scraped an embarrassing 6th place finish, and Ge Gea has now opened up on the criticism the team received.

“We cannot do the same because it was a disaster. I really hope we’re going to play much better,” the veteran shot-stopper said.

“It was very tough, embarrassing sometimes Some games were a mess. It was painful and unacceptable. Sometimes, you have to feel the pain to go up and keep going.”

Manchester United eye-up £34m defender

Manchester United are reportedly interested in the signature of Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport (as quoted by Sports Witness), Dumfries could become a Red Devil this summer should the Premier League giants find a new home for their current right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United boss Erik ten Hag is said to appreciate Dumfries, as explained by transfer specialist and CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano via Substack.

The 24-year-old England international has been seeing less and less game-time, with Diogo Dalot pipping the number one spot.

It is clear that the 20-time league winners need to shore up their defence this summer after the club conceded 57 goals last season, and so far, they have managed to complete the signings of Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez.

Wan-Bissaka is among the best right-backs in England at defending in one-versus-one situations but the rest of his game is not up to the standard Ten Hag will demand.

The Red Devils will ultimately need a top-quality player to fill that gap, and Dumfries could be the right man for the job.

The 26-year-old Dutchman arrived at the San Siro from PSV Eindhoven last summer on a four-year contract and has since made 45 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A club, scoring five goals and assisting with 7.

The report also states that Inter Milan currently values their player at £34m (€40m).

Major twist as Barcelona preparing to hijack Chelsea’s deal to sign France international Chelsea FC

Chelsea appears to have found themselves in yet another transfer saga.

The Blues, overseen by new owner Todd Boehly, are desperate for some fresh defensive additions.

Having lost both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger on free transfers at the end of last season after both centre-backs failed to extend their contracts, manager Thomas Tuchel will know that reinforcing his back line is a top priority.

However, although heavily linked with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Chelsea, who came close to signing the France international last summer, could end up missing out again.

That’s according to a recent report from journalist Gerard Romero, backed up by leading transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who both report that La Liga giants Barcelona are preparing to hijack the Blues’ potential deal.

News that Barcelona has not given up in their quest to sign the highly-rated defender will come as a bitter blow to Boehly and Chelsea, who are now facing a race against time to make some more signings before the new 2022-23 season gets underway next month.

PSG boss comments on the future of Leeds target bringing good news

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has spoken about the future of forwarding Arnaud Kalimuendo.
The 55-year-old was asked a question about the 20-year-old’s future and stated via Fabrizio Romano: “Kalimuendo’s future? I’m more than happy with him, he’s doing great but then… there’s the market. We’ll see club and player’s decision”.

The Frenchman seems to hint that although he is happy with what the player is doing during pre-season, he is aware that there is interest in Kalimuendo and that the French club could sell him this summer.
This will come as good news for Leeds United and Jesse Marsch as the Premier League side are interested in the player. Last week, it was reported by 90min that Leeds was on the verge of an agreement to sign Kalimuendo from PSG. The report stated that the Yorkshire club will pay £21m for the 20-year-old to the French champions and have now become confident of securing the blockbuster new transfer to solve their striker crisis.

The Premier League club suffered from a lack of options up top last season after Patrick Bamford failed to follow up his impressive 20/21 season due to the striker having his season plagued by injuries. That nearly cost Leeds through relegation and it is a problem Marsch is set to address during this transfer window.

Kalimuendo has been at PSG since 2012 when he joined the Paris club’s youth set-up and made his professional debut in 2020. The forward spent the last two seasons on loan at Lens, where he scored 19 Ligue 1 goals across 60 appearances. At just 20, there is still plenty of room for the youngster to develop and this will excite Marsch as he works to improve the player further.
